* A brilliant analysis of the world today in all its uncertainty and complexity

Product Description

For decades we have confidently believed in our models for the way the world works. Light-touch capitalism creates wealth everywhere; spread democracy and you spread peace; terrorists need to be crushed by overwhelming force. Yet the evidence that this way of looking at things is flawed has become simply overwhelming. The credit crisis, the failures in Iraq and Afghanistan, even the fall of the Soviet Union - all were unthinkable, all defied what was supposed to happen. Our models no longer work because they fail to take into account simply how totally unpredictable the world is. Just as Nassim Nicholas Taleb's bestselling book THE BLACK SWAN looked at the impact of improbable events, this book looks at how the unthinkable has come to govern everything - and how we have to embrace it or risk catastrophe.

Time to think about the unthinkable . . . 25 April 2011
By SquareRoot - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
We have entered the age of disorder, a time in history where all of our tried and true ways of coping with life are failing us. Our control and our certainty are being swept away by a wildfire of change. Ramo's book will take you on a gut wrenching rollercoaster ride through the evidence of this new state of disorder.

. . . Why is our form of governance unable to keep up with our needs? Why do our legislators seem unable to get a handle on what our citizens really expect? Why are our State Department and our black-box sleuths unable to accurately size up our enemies, anticipate their next move, and deploy an effective deterrent or response? And the list goes on . . .

But hold onto hope, for Ramo develops his thesis to a level of optimism that will calm your nerves. It won't be easy, change never is, but getting comfortable with change is what is needed and Ramo explains why and how to deal with it.
