For anyone interested in contemporary collage this catalogue is a must have ..... I say catalogue because that is exactly what it is. The exhibition to which it refers was held at the Gestalten Space, Berlin; a show which successfully presented what collage artists are making today.

Great book, however some major artists not included. 9 Dec 2013
By Craig Thomas - Published on Amazon.com

Whilst the content and artists represented are good it seems to have overlooked some major contemporary artists working with collage that have been excluded, which I was a little surprised by. Eg: Mathew Hale, Andro WeKua, Amanda Ho, Ellen Gallagher, et

Blatant Adver-Book 15 Jun 2014
By Jim C. - Published on Amazon.com

This book acts as if (by the title) it is a historical reference of some type. It is not. It is simply a compilation of rather boring artists that share a similar vision of what collage is....but it is a vast misrepresentation. Don't be fooled. It is printed poorly, with some kind of ideas of design that make it appear like an old 60's magazine. This is neither contemporary collage, nor modern art. It presents artists that are highly limited in their scope and ingenuity...this type of work should be from the 1920s, not the 2010's. These are unknown artists being promoted by their galleries as something more than they are... albeit, there is nothing wrong with promoting artists. It took me less time to read it than a recent copy of Art in America. The layout is bad, the color printing is bad...although it is a little entertaining while trying to assert some type of overdone design concept. These artists are derivative and nearly unknown in the world today (with a couple exceptions). You can see this in the references of where the art lives at the moment...in the galleries that are trying to make these artists appear important..no actual museum, or other historically important collections. There are better books about collage both Modern and Contemporary printed in 1980. When I buy a book, I'd like to learn a thing or two...this book doesn't even accomplish that with the artists it is portraying. It is more like Community Art League nonsense. I fear I've wasted my money this time and hope that the artists in this book do in fact some day attain their dreams of becoming great collage creators. Like I said, there are a couple artists in here that are of some interest perhaps, but the bad layout and editing and for that matter writing overwhelm any good qualities these artists may have. If you want to learn about collage, it's history, it's meaning...this is NOT the book. It is just a bad compilation of mediocre hacks.

Great overview of collage artists nowadays 19 Mar 2014
By Carol Jazzar - Published on Amazon.com

Beautiful book. Lot's of images for each artist's work with a little introduction. This is a great overview to see what is happening in the "collage world" and discover new talents but the book doesn't include several important artists of the last 100 years.
