A fantastic book all about Pip who has lots of adventures with birds and animals. Enid Blyton cleverly weaves facts about the animals (for example, male sparrows have black bibs on their chests and male blackbirds have golden beaks) into lovely short stories. I've lost my copy and am going to buy a new one so I can read it to my godson, I already told him the sparrow story from memory and he loved it!!!

This book takes young readers through adventures through birds and animals and how they came to be recognised,
i had this book in softback when i was very young and wish i still had it now, i have been searching for around 13 years for another copy and i will get one :D thanks amazon,
the sparrow and how he got his little black bib, the story of the shepards purse , and little lambs tails are still a few that i can remember, this book helps younger readers to recognise birds, plants and woodland animals by using short storys that captivate the imagination of all, i am now 23 years old and the storys stuck in my mind so that has to say something about what a young reader will gain from reading this book, a must for all young and old, captivating, energetic and a refreshing must :)

I recently re-discovered this book from my own childhood in my parents' loft and have introduced it to my 5 year old son. It's a delightful collection of short stories - perfect for bedtime - about a little pixie called Pip who has all sorts of adventures in the natural world. It's a lovely book that fires the imagination of things in the natural world like how did male blackbirds get a yellow beak or what could pixies use the acorn husks for once the nut has been removed and many more. My son adores it - even though he's a Nintendo fiend for the rest of his time. Just shows that in this age of all things electronic and TV, good old Enid Blyton still has the magic touch for a whole new generation. A much more wholesome way to encourage kids to enjoy books than Horrid Henry, Jacqueline Wilson and the like which is all they seem to be encouraged to enjoy these days.

Delightful book of short stories, read to my own children and now purchased for my grandchildren. Lovely stories which teaches children about the wild life around them.

I was very pleased to find this book was still available as it was a favourite read as a child but I couldn't remember the stories clearly. I am looking forward to reading it again and passing it on to some little ones I know.
