This is a well made film with a good cast and good acting throughout.

It is also based much more on fact than the Walt Disney original made in the 1960's. If you're interested in reading about the true facts of the Greyfriars Bobby story read "Greyfriars Bobby, The real story at Last" by Forbes McGregor which I have reviewed on this site also.

The scenery makes for a lovely visual spectacle, Stirling is used for the location with its castle, in place of Edinburgh.
The only downside to this film( purely for authenticity to the real story) is the fact that they used a West Highland Terrier, instead of a Skye.
But the slightly scruffy appearance of the dog makes for a gritty realism that few films possess nowadays( with animals immaculately turned out and presented with not a hair out of place).

My kids loved this film much more than the original which they thought was ok, and I enjoyed it myself to be honest as a lover of Terrier breeds.

Go on, get yourself this dvd and let the whole family enjoy it.

This delightful family film really does hit the mark for sentiment. Once being the proud owner of a Westie who over the years was the loyalist of companions,I felt I had to own this film for his memory alone. However I was delighted that I decided to buy the DVD. The acting was excellent including the little dog's, with a lovely story that wasn't too slushy. Visually Edinburgh looked stunning thanks to the use of some very heavy filtering. Highly recommended to dog lovers everywhere but be warned there are a couple of scenes that may be upsetting for young children

Charming Film 28 Aug 2007
Format:DVD
The illustration on the cover of the DVD does not reflect how visualy impressive the movie is. Its beautifuly shot and makes good use of the historic Scottish town of Stirling and its Castle doubling for old Edinburgh. The whole thing is very well done and has a good cast and guest appearance by Christopher Lee as the Lord Provost of Edinburgh! I really would recommend this movie as good family viewing, it appeals to adults and children alike as well as dog lovers, my nephews have watched it several times over and it keeps them glued to the screen and I must say I have enjoyed watching it a few times with them. A thoroughly charming film and a rarity to find wholesome entertainement of this kind.

Sloppy Production
There's little to commend this film. It was never going to be easy to match the original so it appears that the producer (Christopher Figg) hasn't bothered. Read more

enchanting
A very warm hearted film, told simply but with a great sense of loyalty. It is a shame this film has not been more widely seen. A sensitive soundtrack adds to the charm. Read more

Disappointing
I wouldn't recommend this film as I thought the acting was poor. The actor James Cosmo and Bobby the dog were the only stars. Read more
