I knew Dave, through caving, before his tragic death, and previously owned a copy of this book before it was released as a Kindle edition. It describes very well a period of exploration in the caving world that many younger readers may well have heard about but never experienced. Whilst at times some of the "scrapes" that are described may seem a little far fetched, anyone that knew Dave will know how close to the truth they are.

In summary, a very good read that will raise a smile, and maybe even some hair.

Amazing value. Well-written overall, as well as offering a mixture of (sometimes poignant) humour, tension and excitement, this all-too-short book offers a real insight into the mindset and motivation of its late - and much missed - author.

Nostalgic memories 27 July 2012

Just found my original copy and am in the process of reading it through, enjoying every page. This is a bit biased because I used to cave and feature several times in the book (Paul Everett) but even so I think it gives a realistic insight into the science, sport or adventure which is caving for the non caver. Every event which Dave describes (from having his mars bars constantly stolen to his solo epics) is not exaggerated and I witnessed several others.
It reads easily and invites us to glimpse the wild times of extreme caving in the early 70's
