As an introduction to cycling, this book is great. The presentation of the book is beautiful. Its my guess the target audience is the novice cyclist, as it covers all aspects but without any depth. I'm surprised the publisher allowed the book to carry this title. I have previously read two of their books on diet and strength training, both of which were superb, with comprehensive bibliographies and references to key research. About me: having hung up my wheels back in 2004, I am now resuming training. I used to race MTB's at the national level in the 90's. I'd have put myself in the bracket of reading "advanced" training books. Friel/Burke were authors I've read in the past, but I wanted to see the latest ken, given all the new power training, turbo trainers, HRM's and such like. If you think that you fit into that sort of bracket, this book will most likely disappoint you: its targeted directly at the newbie. Apart from the foreword by Sean Kelly and the title, there is nothing advanced in this book!
