Product Description

Acupuncture is one of the most popular and widely accepted complementary therapies available to the general public. And yet many of us know little about it, what it can be used for, and how it works. This book explains: * What it feels like to have treatment * How acupuncture works * How acupuncture helps to balance your energy and strengthen your immune system * How it can successfully treat a wide variety of ailments, from panic attacks to hot flushes, asthma, joint pains and the common cold * Which of the 'Five Element' types you are and how this relates to your health * How acupuncture can be used safely and effectively to treat pregnant women, children, and animals * How to find the right practitioner. Self-help information and questionnaires are also included to enable you to discover more about your diagnosis.

Summary; informative, clearly set out, excellent self help diagnosis techniques, inspires me to want more.

I found this book more than helpful as a beginner's guide to acupuncture; Ms Hicks explains the principles of Chinese Traditional Medicine, the Five

Elements Theory and the principles of meridians and acupuncture clearly, in simple but non-patronising language.

The self help quizzes to work out one's (possible/probable) imbalances and diagnosis(es) are simple to use and understand too. Very helpful.

The intermittent mentions of Chinese doctors are very interesting and shows that Angela Hicks knows her stuff at a core level.

I would have liked pictures of the meridians with acupuncture points, but I guess you can't have everything, or Ms Hicks would be out of a job!!

A very good read for anyone interested in acupuncture or any kind of energy work..

I find the main title a bit misleading. You really need to read the subtitle - 'How acupuncture works and how it can help you'. It is directed mainly to those who are considering acupuncture treatment, since it covers areas from whether inserting needles hurt to what type of questions are asked during assesment.

Good introduction to the basics of chinese medicine (the largest parts is about Five Elements type personalities, Organs and their functions) all written cleraly and in easy way, but unfortunately not enough if you want to delve into the subject more. Contains no meridian charts, nor acupuncture points, there could be definately more on diagnosis.

Great book 12 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
This is a great book for acupuncture practitioners, students and the lay person. It gives a clear overview of acupuncture and what to expect from treatment, including how a diagnosis is reached, the theory of Chinese medicine, common conditions treated by acupuncture, and even how to find the right practitioner for you. A very useful, easy to read book that should be a mainstay of anyone interested in acupuncture.
