Product Description

Synopsis

Crisis of confidence is a psychological condition which is increasingly common in an age when people are expected to achieve more, work faster, and run more complex homes and lifestyles. Whilst outwardly appearing able to perform a task competently, psychologically the sufferer does not have confidence in being able to do it consistently well, and consequently experiences severe anxiety beforehand, and strain or undue energy-drainage afterwards. This book seeks to identify and explain this common psychological condition.

This book is about why some highflying and sucessful people are crippled with fear. It also has interesting things to say about how the business world creates and maintains fear in its work force. Unfortunately the author of this book did not decide who her audience is. The book is part text book and part self help workshop. The Achilles learning chapter reads like a recycled accademic paper. The part of the book about self healing runs out of steam and is boring. This is a shame. The Achilles syndrom is something I have meet while working as a nurse, but have never had a name for it or guideline about it. This book had a good idea spoiled by poor editing. I would like this author to make a proper self help book. I wish this book had been up to the standare of "A courage to heal." A good work book about this subject is badly needed by some people.

Useful information 29 Sep 2010

I have found this book very useful and I can identify with many of the behaviours contained within the book.
I believe that books, whilst they may not have all the answers, contain some very
useful information, it's up to the reader of these books to take what they need and then look further.

The topic and themes are highly interesting and important. It really made sense to me and it might be that Clarkson is very close to some important and novel insights here. It is thus very frustrating that her messages and insights are made partly inaccessable. Some parts are good, but most of the text is badly organised and "messy". The book should have another round or two of re-writing! That said; I have not managed to find another text on these issues - so I stillre commend it to people interested in these topics. I have learned from it and found it helpful - but I wish Clarkson had made it easier for me.
