It is all a great adventure. In his dreams Alex can be a lottery winner, a secret agent, he can talk to animals, and he even thinks at his darkest hour, that he looked into the face of God Himself. Quite literally he is testing the limits of dream control. And along with his mentor, (George, affectionately nicknamed The Scientist) they, with advanced technology, are even able to record Alex's dreams and play them back, enabling more accurate almost perfect total recall.

But is Alex playing with fire on a mission; on a slippery slope to a huge calamity very possibly putting his life at risk? Will his marriage stand the neglect as he puts his heart and soul into alternative priotities?

More About the Author

C.M. Donaldson is a London-based independent author, and an avid reader who loves science fiction, detective stories, murder mysteries and courtroom dramas.

The AL-EX Project (Alternative Existence) Testing the limits of dream control came about through having an interest in dreams, dream interpretation and the mysteries surrounding what is described in the tale as the dream state. Often, most people feel frustrated that the tail-ends of vivid dreams are all that are left on waking, and it was the author's curiosity and fascination into the dream phenomena that led to the writing of an amusing, imaginative, tale of adventure, testing age-old theories, pushing the boundaries with unethical practices and meddling in the unknown heading in a spiral towards a probable mishap.

It must be noted that the dreams written in detail in The AL-EX Project are dreams the author has actually had, some of which had been written down and saved some years ago, but became relevant to include as the story took shape.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent original read 13 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Alex and The Scientist are studying the possibility of manipulating Alex's dreams, to find if it is possible for everyone to manipulate them. His dreams are all recorded onto film so they can study them. Alex keeps having nightmares from previous traumas in his life and The Scientist is trying to find out if he can help Alex, and others that suffer from night terrors to see if they can be cured. With a love triangle and lots of research trying to help people, will Alex be able to overcome the hardships in his life to find the cure that they have been studying for years?

An amazingly well written story with an unusual plot, this book was really good. It's the sort of book where a lot happens and I don't want to give too much away so excuse my vague review. Characters, Plot line and research are impeccable, the scientific information to take in can be over powering but necessary. Over all if you like a good science fiction then i would recommend this book! With so much going on it will hold you to find out what happens next. A great read thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreams Speak Loudly 30 April 2013
The AL-EX Project (Alternative Existence) Testing the Limits of Dream Control

If you have ever been curious about the power of the subconscious mind, how it works and how it plays a part in our dreams, this is the book for you.

CM Donaldson is the author of a new way of seeing the existence of an alternate world in this story of a man who made his life's work an investigation of the meanings of dreams and how they can serve him, no matter how weird or impossible his visions became while in a dream state.

Alex, the main character along with his cohort the "Scientist" dug deep for answers in the center of their mission, The AL-EX project, to record and question dream visions like, the meaning of the taking white lion Alex met in his dream state.

The symbolic clues lie within the long hours in a lab while Alex is asleep and dreaming, hooked up to probes while the Scientist is able to record the dream on a monitor. Fascinating!

I have always been interested in the reason we dream and have studied Carl Jung's theories that spoke to dreams being metaphors and or symbolic expressions coming directly from the subconscious mind as a disclosure that can be applied to waking states. The AL-EX Project uncovers the life of Alex during his obsession with the research and study of an alternate existence and reveals the calamity and his reactions to the anguish that implanted itself in his waking existence. His struggle with depression rings true.

CM Donaldson writes in conversational British speak, which is appealing and sincere. Before the 5th chapter you are in the story without realizing it is fiction. But it is science fiction with a soft sense of reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very intriguing! 2 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
According to Merriam-Webster the word dream means 1.) a series of thoughts, visions, or feelings that happen during sleep, 2.) an idea or vision that is created in your imagination and that is not real, 3.) something that you have wanted very much to do, be, or have for a long time. So does that mean that our dreams are fantasy? What if you had a way to find out?

Alex is a brilliant scientist with a brilliant mind full of curiosity. When the opportunity presented itself to work with The Scientist George, Alex jumped at the chance. Along came Kay-Johanna, the woman which would become Alex's wife and life was now just grand. The project that Alex was working on with The Scientist hit home because Alex had been having bad dream or night terrors since he was a small child after the death of his parents and then again later in life so to see dream analysis was totally fascinating to them both. But how would they do it and would it work? And if it worked what would they do with the information they obtained from the research? Would this be ground-breaking or detrimental to the test subjects life? Only time would tell.

The Al-Ex Project is sci-fi fantasy but who knows what the future holds, it could very well become reality. It is a very interesting book with the cast of characters that are interwoven in the story because you have characters from the dreams involved in the story and some of them play a reoccurring role in the lives of the characters. CM Donaldson writes a very captivating story that doesn't even feel like sci-fi. This is my first encounter with Donaldson but it is NOT my last.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Read! 21 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
The AL-EX Project (alternative existence) Testing the limits of dream control by C.M. Donaldson captured my interest at the very beginning and held it throughout the entire book.

The main character, Alex, is plagued by nightmares so he and his colleague, the Scientist, search for answers as to why the nightmares occur and for a means to prevent or cure them. Through their research they discovered a way they can monitor, interact and manipulate the dreams.

The characters are well developed and likable. Kayj, Alex's wife is an amazingly strong female character and I loved her. I laughed and cried with them and at times I wanted to reach into the pages and slap them silly.

The subject of dream control is very intriguing and I imagine something that we all wonder about. Dreams have fascinated us since the beginning of time. Donaldson does an excellent job of mixing both the scientific and humanistic aspects of dreams. We are pulled into the dreams with Alex and it feels as if we are experiencing the dreams with him. The author's descriptions of the dreams, the emotions produced are spot on.

Donaldson's writing was a dream. The words flowed with ease and the style was a breath of fresh air.

I was sorry for the book to end (this is my gage on how much I enjoyed a book.) When the author leaves me wanting more, I know it's a book I'll remember forever. I will definitely remember the AL-EX Project and will be looking for more books by this author.
