Product Description

Review

"This book is a one stop shop for anyone who needs an answer fast and the alphabetically ordered format is well suited to this end...As to whether it is a worthwhile investment for any small animal practice I would say definitely yes, and if it is a practice with new or recent graduates then I would argue that it should be a top priority addition to the library." (Journal of Small Animal Practice, February 2011)

"Bigger and better… The recent edition of the most widely used book in general practice doesn′t fail its mission: to provide easy and fast help to the busy practitioner. It will take you more than 5 minutes to read the 13 pages [on anemia]... but you won’t miss any option! The appendix also contains lots of useful information such as endocrinology tests and toxic agents with their antidotes. A very complete drug formulary provides practical recommendations, including adverse effects and precautions, or the treatment of dogs and cats." (Vets Today, Winter 2009)

"Blackwell’s latest edition of the Five–Minute Veterinary Consult for canine and feline health issues is a stunning volume which consists of 1578 pages of concise information..... For veterinary students or authors of veterinary literature, this would be a great reference book to have on the shelf. For practicing veterinarians or clinicians the approach of this text allows for quick access in times of diagnostic dilemmas. Finally, for someone who is teaching in a veterinary technician program this book would be an invaluable resource." (Veterinary Information Network, March 2010)

No matter how many books you already own, this one is essential. Especially for those students headed into senior clinics, this book makes diagnosis and SOAP writing about a million times easier. A great reference that gives answers in just a few minutes and helps avoid those embarrassing long silences when asked to comment on a case by your instructor.

I was searching for a reference book to keep at hand and refer to during a busy surgery or even doing a bit of research during quieter times.
Unfortunately this is not the book for me. I find the size and weight of the book prohibits me from carrying it with me. Also at nearly 1600 pages with small print I don't find it particularly accessible.
The paper is thin and quickly creases. I guess it's my fault for not checking these things before purchase - it would have been useful to know size and weight (I was expecting A5 and this is A4)
I'm sure it's a great book for the right situation but I already have thick textbooks and wanted a quick and easy pointer...

This book is amazing. Sometimes you just want a quick concise answer, in a standard format, without pages of pathophysiological explanation. You want to know what drugs to use and in what dose. You want to know the bloods & biochemistries. You don't want waffle, and you don't want to spend an hour reading pages and pages of Ettinger to get the one sentence you need. This book gives you just that. The equine one is awesome too. I bought them both.
