The 100-Minute Bible summarises the Bible, dividing it into 50 short readings of about 400 words each; each section should take about two minutes to read. 26 sections are given to the life of Christ, 17 to the Old Testament, and 7 to the later part of the New Testament.

As a vicar I bought copies of this for our young mums group to introduce them to the Bible. They got hooked! They thought it was excellent! It is a good quick read to give an oversight and start discussion. I've kept a number of copies to give to 'enquirers' in my parishes!

Not sure how this would be for somebody who did not know the original at all... but I came to it having been taught quite a lot about the Bible during childhood. After a very long gap it was good to read this and be reminded of these stories. I'm not a Christian but still appreciate the historical and cultural significance.
It does what it says on the cover: presenting a summary of the main facts, parables, poetry and teachings from the Bible in 50 easily readable one-page chunks, along with helpful maps. The only jarring note was the slightly patronising preface. Otherwise excellent, and a great idea - I'd like to see similar summaries of other great works of literature.

I'd been looking around for something to read before plunging head-first into The Bible itself and I found the 100 Minute to be a perfect introduction. Each page is a full Bible piece and each flows from one to the other.
Once finished, I purchased HOLY BIBLE NLV Version as my own personal Bible and good follow on for someone who finds reading the King James version, etc, quite difficult.

Great for the car

A quick snapshot of 'the bigger picture'
I found this to be an excellent, brief summary of the bible key events, particularly helpful for understanding Old Testament tribal history, as it's set out chronologically.
