5.0 out of 5 stars Life Coaching Made Easy 17 Jan 2003
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed reading Fiona Harrold's book "The 10-minute Life Coach: Fast-working Strategies for a Brand New You". It's the ideal solution for anyone who has great intentions for setting those New (year) goals and resolutions, but never quite get the plan into fruition. It offers practical steps on how to kick start yourself into action, while Fiona's inspiration, enthusiasm and motivational skills gently, but firmly lead you towards and through the first steps of goal setting, attaining those dreams or releasing your true potential.
The book will challenge you to look at yourself from many different angles, It will get you to question the validity of those beliefs you may have held about yourself for a long time, with some surprising and sometimes fun results.
Fiona's book offers many quick wins, which often have an instant positive effect on your sense of well being.
The book is easy to read and at times it's hard to put it down as you learn new skills or remember old one's that you had forgotten.
Fiona's sticks to the 'Keep it simple' principle and has done away with the jargon and mystery often found in self-development books, it has something to offer everyone.
So whether you have a busy lifestyle and are always on the move or relaxing away from it all, this is a book to keep with you, dip in, learn something new about you and your potential.
Invest those 10 minutes daily with your pocket life coach. You know things might just begin to happen!

3.0 out of 5 stars The 10 Minute Solution 6 Feb 2003
Format:Paperback
No one thinks you can actually change your life within 10 minutes and so the minor annoyance of the title can be put to one side. The book makes pleasant rather than life changing reading. It is concerned more with "brief" solutions and it is a pity there is no index or a clearer indication of what the chapters are all about. The book is crammed with inspirational accounts and, as stated, is a pleasant read. It is not as good as the author's previous book "Be your own Life Coach", which is much more structired and "get down to business". The 10 Minute Solution would make a nice present and the size and binding of the book make it easy to handle - unlike "Be your own Life Coach" which is rather chunky and difficult to hold.

3.0 out of 5 stars The 10-Minute Life Coach 8 April 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I have read the Amazon reviews of this book. And I have read the book. I conclude the reason for the 1 star vs. 5 stars differential is - where have you started your journey?
For me, I read the book at the very beginning of my journey. I took the instructions literally and spent 10-minutes and no more to work through the chapters - 1 by 1 - day by day. Also, I had no expectation of enlightenment or indeed anticipation of a eureka moment - much of a sceptic in my approach. But it did move me, steadily, from a very negative mental attitude, full of limiting beliefs, to a much more positive outlook. Change is hard work - there is absolute no short cut or way round this. By going slowly, understanding the change needed within yourself, builds to a greater understanding of what you need to do.
If you read this book midway or nearing the end of your journey then it may be covering old ground: I don't think you will gain anything from it. If you want overnight success then this book is not the one for you - but which book is?
I have read most of FH's books and they seem to mature as her experience grows and her learning and understanding of the subject deepens.
If this is your first self-help book - buy it. If it is your third or fourth (or more), and intrigued by celebrity Life Coach, go straight to The 7 Rules of Success.

4.0 out of 5 stars An antidote to post-Christmas blues! 7 Jan 2003
Format:Paperback
The publication timing for a book on the theme of positve change is ideal. After the highs of Christmas and New Year come a dip, perhaps followed by resolutions. How strong IS our resolve though? I have some self-doubt and worry that some resolutions may not last much longer than the 10 minutes alluded to in the title of the book! However, Fiona Harrold's book represented a good "can't put it down" read - I raced through it with my feet up on a Sunday afternoon.
The book offers a good mix - some slightly "quick fix" fluffy suggestions, which can be brought into play almost immediately but also thought provoking ideas to digest and implement on a deeper level.
The case studies and role models mentioned are all fairly grounded, i.e., the average person can identify with and respond to the examples given.
I liked the punchy summaries of strategies to follow at the end of each chapter, which can easily be re-visited and used as useful tools.
The book has certainly had the effect of giving me some New Year get up and go. I hope Fiona will forgive me for being slightly cynical and just holding back on the 5-star rating - I'll reserve judgement until I see just how long it is before the bubble of well-being bursts! I will, of course, read and re-read certain points to give myself every chance of maintaining the sense of purpose Fiona's guidelines have given me and extending the benefits throughout the year.
I would certainly recommend this as a good, inspirational read for anyone needing the leverage to cast off the blues, ingest a giant helping of self-belief and to come away with the feeling that radical lifestyle changes are possible and achievable without too many complicated or costly strategies.
