90s eclecticism begins to burst forth,
By A Customer
This review is from: Now That's What I Call Music 1993 - Millennium Series (Audio CD)
For me 1990-1993 was a peculiar time in that all my musical awakening happened in this period. So it is with great fondness and nostalgia this album gets 4 stars, it loses the one purely because no compilation can fully impress everyone. That being said the Now Millenium series sought to bring together the best 40 tracks from each year; this also being their second attempt as they had originally released a Now 1993, in 1993. This copy is better. The superb 4 non blondes anthemic 'Whats going on' sent shivers down my spine when I first heard it and the David Arnold produced 'Play Dead', Bjork's breakthrough single is phenomenal. House of Pain have been imortalised by its advertisement use. But for me it is the sheer scope of material that impresses. Suede's 'Animal Nitrate' sits at ease besides Sub Sub's 'Ain't no love' (interestingly Sub Sub are now 'Doves'). Yet I feel that Suede's place at the conclusion of the album rather than being a last thought, represents the way music in the 90s moved on. Here is an album free from Spice Girls, Take That, Oasis, etc. This is an album combining Golden oldies (Tina Turner, Bee Gees) with progressive forward lookers. I cannot recommend this more. Bravo Now 1993.

Prompt delivery - appeared OK - not however in any packaging that identified the product as new - which was unfortunate as was needed for 18th birthday present as a new item.
