4.0 out of 5 stars CLASSICS GALORE ON A HIT PACKED ALBUM 4 Oct 2003
Format:Audio CD
This compilation includes great classics like U2’s Angel Of Harlem, The Christians’ Harvest For The World, Danny Wilson’s Mary’s Prayer, Billy Ocean’s Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car, Eddy Grant’s Gimme Hope Joanna, Yazz’s The Only Way Is Up, Neneh Cherry’s Buffalo Stance and Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry Be Happy. Styles of the year include rock (U2, Phil Collins, INXS), folk (The Proclaimers), Pop (Kim Wilde, Tiffany, Pet Shop Boys), reggae (Aswad, Eddy Grant) and more. The music represents a great mix of artists that were new (The Christians, Neneh Cherry) and well established at that time (Cher, Billy Ocean, U2). My personal favourites include Yello’s Race, Cherry’s refreshing Buffalo Stance and Yazz’s addictive The Only Way Is Up. There are also re-released hits from an earlier period (The Hollies) or successful remakes (A Groovy Kind Of Love, I Think We’re Alone Now) and quite a number of obscure artists like Julia Fordham, Inner City and Hothouse Flowers. As compilations go, this is a great window on 1988!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is what it is 16 Nov 1999

A great collection of the best songs from 1988. I am updating my collection and switching from tapes to CDs, so it's great to see all of my favourites in one place. "Groovy Kind of Love", "Don't Worry Be Happy" and "Mary's Prayer" are great classics which flood back the memories. ("Don't Worry Be Happy" has to be one of the most upbeat songs of all time. If ever I'm feeling down, this song is guaranteed to perk me up again!). It's interesting to see the songs which have returned in some form or other either as remakes or re-releases. "Don't Go", "I'm Gonna Be" and "Get outta my dreams and into my car" come to mind. The originals are always better! This is definitely a great collection for fans of the 80s!

Great 80`s cd! Simple. A great year for music including hits from the likes of Erasure , who hit number 4 with this by the way, and the Pet Shop Boys!
