Russell Watson talks about La Voce

Biography

Russell Watson sits forward in his chair and smiles. “The thing that I most wanted to achieve has happened. The voice is back. And not only that, but the infrastructure that generates the noise I make, the strength and stamina I need to perform all that incredible material is back.” He relaxes, his message delivered. “It’s been a long road and it’s been hard work, but we’re there…”

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Known affectionately as "Salford's answer to Pavarotti," UK classical music singer Russell Watson has proved adept at mixing up his classical repertoire with popular 20th century compositions. On previous albums, Watson has tackled songs by pop artists as diverse as Ultravox ("Vienna") Simon and Garfunkel ("Bridge Over Troubled Waters") and Freddie Mercury ("Barcelona"); but on That’s Life he turns his attention fully to the world of popular romance for the first time. Following in the sprightly footsteps of Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, Watson approaches classics like "Strangers In The Night", "When I Fall In Love" and "Born Free" with typical verve. The selection serves to showcase Watson's natural versatility to wonderful effect, and also gives him the opportunity to perform duets with acclaimed contemporary pop stars such as Alexander O'Neal and Jocelyn Brown. While the choice of songs on That’s Life is nothing extraordinary, listening to one of Britain's finest tenors delivering some of the world's most eternal love songs is an opportunity not to be missed. --Danny McKenna

About the Artist

Tenor superstar Russell Watson is aiming to break new ground and force the boundaries. His new record is a collection of some of his lifelong favourite songs, and recording at the legendary Capitol studios in Los Angeles seemed the only way to do these songs justice - by bringing them back to their original home.

With a collection of classic songs including 'Strangers in the Night', 'When I Fall in Love' and 'Born Free', Russell has truly encapsulated the magic of the golden era of music within this record.

Whilst recording this record he received news that no one would want to hear - he was diagnosed as having a brain tumour. Despite this news, he kept it secret from everyone and soldiered on to complete the record.

To sum it up this record is quite simply a story of passion versus emotion and there really is only one possible title. 'That's Life.

Russell is famous for his big voice and power-full renditions of the classics but he is more than this and with this album he shows a another side to fabulous vocal range.

The passion he gives to his live performances or his studio recordings and his wonderful tones set the scene for the listener to be encapsulated in the song its meaning and its world, the extraordinary talent that is the "VOICE" is backed by the best musicians and production to give the a tour de force of listening pleasure.

If your a fan of Russell, swing, or classic easy listening this album is a must have.

If Russell is singing classical or any other music you can bet he gives it 100 percent and the album recorded at a time when he was not sure he would be with us much longer due to his major health problems, his heart and soul is in every note. I love his classics, and his wider range of music, I love the album I am sure you will too.

S'wonderful 8 Mar 2007

I loved it. . all right I was somewhat sceptical before hearing it because I didn't think anything could compete with 'Ultimate Collection',

but I was wrong! That's Life is lovely and full of emotion and feeling for those old standards. The big band backing is fantastic accompaniment.

Worth waiting for

He's done it again 13 April 2007
Format:Audio CD
Once again Russell Watson has produced an album that surpassed my expectations. When I read that the new album would consist solely of songs made famous by American singers like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole I wondered whether I would like it as much as his previous albums that had a mix of classical and contemporary styles. After all, what drew me to Russell in the first place was his powerful voice. I needn't have worried, this album is sublime. Turn out the lights, curl up with the one you love and let yourself be carried away by the most beautiful songs sung by the most beautiful voice.

Another excellent CD by a great singer. Russell watson is so versatile in his choice of music-classical or 'modern'. Long may he continue to produce such great albums.

Hmm, Yes! He's obviously got a good voice-or he wouldn't have got a recording contract or the backing for tours.
But I WISH someone would polish up his on-stage persona. Read more
