Having found this in the toddler end of our local library I picked it up out of idle curiosity. the first few warnings were OK, don't stand on a swing, don't put a carrot in your ear (?) etc., were fine, however, don't jump out of a window, don't smoke cigarettes and don't put a plastic bag over your head (all illustrated with the usual happy smiling child having fun doing the action) are appalling! We have a two year old that would never have dreamt of climbing into a washing machine/freezer, but i would be concerned that upon looking at these illustrations and seeing how much "fun" this child is shown to be having, she would be tempted. Now I don't want to be written off as a prude, I found the Bunny Suicides hilarious, but would not have let my child read it. The same goes for this, I chuckled as I read it, but as soon as it is placed in the hands/view of a child it is wholly out of context. So much so that i took it to the counter of the library to ask for it to be removed as i assumed it was directed at adults. the library staff were equally concerned and have dully done so.

This book is, like the other Pittau and Gervais books, lovely, clever, subversive. But, be careful who you read it to. If your child is mischievious, I'd worry about giving them ideas ("putting your head in a plastic bag...that's dangerous" "locking yourself in the freezer...that's dangerous"). It ends with something like "living...that's dangerous" which I thought was just a bit too *clever* for young children to understand and just makes them worry/not understand that the things that have gone before are genuinely dangerous (some more than others!) whereas saying 'life is dangerous' is a statement that's too abstract to grasp. So, fun, clever, but in my opion, proceed with a bit of caution...

no sense of humor? don't buy this book 4 Jan 2008
By Sarah Beth - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Granted, my kids are a little silly... but they love these books. We bought Dangerous and Digusting. If you don't have a sense of humor, don't bother... If you are easily offended, don't bother. But if you enjoy non-PC humor, get these books.

My 7-year-old found it hilarious 9 Aug 2011
By Ginger O. - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I see that another parent posted that the book is not for kids. It does have a humorously anarchic point of view, so I can see how it would not be great for every kid, especially kids who take things at face value. But my son at 7 immediately got it, thought it was hilarious, and read it over and over at a time when reading was really hard for him, and not very much fun. He's 10 years old now and he still gets a kick out of the book when he comes across it. In fact it's become a running family joke (Don't do that! That's DANGEROUS!)

Hilarious! 8 Nov 2007
By Kristen F. Stewart - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
For anyone who works with children or has a twisted sense of humor - this book is a riot!! It makes you giggle all the way through. Check out the author's other books as well. You won't be disappointed and neither will the recipient should you give them as a gift.
