Atlantic's Fifties rockabilly/rock'n'roll recordings have never been properly documented until now! Includes the original versions of 'Judy' (popularized by Elvis) and 'Rave On' (later popularized by Buddy Holly), as well as incredibly rare early recordings by David Gates, founder of the 1970s soft rock band, Bread, plus Bill Haley's Comets.-- Atlantic Records is one of the great labels in American popular music. From classic R&B singers like Joe Turner, LaVern Baker, and The Drifters to soul stars like Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and Solomon Burke, and classic rock artists like the Rolling Stones, Yes, Led Zeppelin, and many others, Atlantic has been at the forefront of popular music since its inception in 1948. As a sixtieth birthday present, we're reissuing 29 recordings that Atlantic probably forgot they ever made! It's the one side of the label's long story that has never been told: the attempt to score rock hits during the late 1950s that started with a failed attempt to sign Elvis.
