One of the best from the series, 4 Jun 2005

Simply put, this is one of the best from the series. Together with the second volume and arguably the 3 Sun compilations (Vol. 14, 16 & 17, and the Chess comp (Vol 10), you will have some of the absolute best Rockabilly originals. Get Vol. 2 and 11 first off, then Vol. 10 followed by the Sun CDs, all 5-stars.
The other volumes have some good solid cuts, but too much of the label's pop-rockabilly material mixed in. The Texas label volumes are very, very good too (Vol 18 & 19). Hopefully Bear Family will release a Starday volume(s), since 'The Starday Story' 3 CD series is long out-of-print (although still they available from Bim-Bam in the UK for $30 each)...

Rock-A-Billy Review, 1 May 2007

This is a great series. All the cds contain lots of Rock-A-Billy orginals and obscure hits and artist. Each album has fantastic liner notes and is a real rock-a-billy history lesson. The liner notes alone make the extra price tag well worth the money. We play them alot on at the radio station during the Rock-A-Billy Review.

RARE SMOKIN' ROCKABILLY, 9 Mar 2000

After Elvis hit it big, every record label in America tried to find the next big rock and roll artist. Each volume of this series features a different label and have around 25-30 cuts each. Well over an hour worth of music. There are tons of rare stuff you're not going to find outside of a 45rpm at a record show. I have just about half of the series and am not disappointed with a single one. If you're a fan of Rockabilly it's a must buy. If you're into the scene but don't know much beyond Elvis and the well known Sun Recordings this is the series to open your eyes...
