Format:VHS Tape
Very occasionally, a documentary has a narrative and dramatic tension that is generally only associated with a good novel. Thatcher - The Downing Street Years is one of those gems.

It has been about 9 years since I watched this, and I dearly want to see it again. By using well structured interviews, the producers build the story from the early beginnings of Prime Minister Thatcher's term in office, through to the intrigues and political miscalculations that ultimately led to her downfall.

I remember feeling the impending doom of the last episode, not wanting the story to end, but knowing the inevitable sequence of historical events.

Not only was the narrative and drama absolutely compelling, despite the limitations of a series of talking heads, the visuals were as rich as story.

With Ronald Reagan now gone, only Mikhail Gorbachev and Margaret Thatcher remain as the triumvirate who defined the 1980s. It is saddening to reflect on Margaret Thatcher's ailing health.

Please Please Please release this exceptional documentary on DVD, and if you ever have an opportunity to see it, I can guarantee, if my memory of 9 years ago holds true, that it will not disappoint.

Thiss BBC series is a fantastic documentary relating to when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister. It is in four parts and covers every important event in her Premiership. It has interviews with a whole range of former Cabinet Ministers and is a very imformative series.

Superb. 21 Mar 2011
Format:VHS Tape
This is a British doco at its best.....all the more interesting because the main characters in it are able to give their version of what happened and from their point of view...and as it was made not long after the fall of Mrs T it gives it a very authentic ring. Have watched it again and again and always find it fascinating...especially the personalities...and how hubris was eventually her undoing. Would give it a hundred stars if I could!!
