This CD of Germany label Bear Family, put together the only two records of Robert Mitchum. The Capitol album "Calypso is like so! (1957) and Monument's "Robert Mitchum. This man sings" (1967). Also contain the single of 1958, "The Ballad of Thunder Road", composed by Mitchum himself and Don Raye, that reached to Top 100.
The edition is wonderful with complete liner notes, photographs and discography. This man, the star of many masterpieces of cinema (The night of the Hunter, Out of the Past,River of no Return, Yakuza.....), too is and excellent singer with a warm voice, proved in two opposite styles like calypso and country. A must.

I BOUGHT A FEW SINGLES MANY YEARS AGO, NOTABLY "BALLAD OF THUNDER ROAD" AND "LITTLE OL WINE DRINKER ME". NOT A GREAT VOICE, BUT A GOOD ONE AND INSTANTLY RECOGNISABLE. HE HOLDS A TUNE WELL, PITY THAT THERE ARE SO FEW RECORDINGS MADE. GOOD VALUE.

As much a I am a huge fan of the actor Robert Mitchum, I can't say that I enjoyed this CD. I didn't know many of the songs, especially the latter ones (being sung in a different language! Spanish? Mexican? ). I will watch Robert's films and enjoy them, but I probably won't listen to this CD again.
