Product Description

From the Back Cover

Rikki Fulton is one of the biggest stars Scotland has produced. From his early days compering for the great dance bands of the 1950s, to classic comedy performances in 'Francie & Josie' and 'Scotch & Wry' and appearances in Hollywood movies like 'Gorky Park', his hugely successful career on stage and screen has made him one of Scotland's best loved entertainers. Now, for the first time, Rikki tells the full story of his extraordinary life - from his childhood in Glasgow in the 1930s, to his experiences in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, and his rise to stardom after the war was over.
Rikki had always wanted to be a performer, but his fledgling theatrical career came to an abrupt halt when war broke out and he volunteered to serve in the Royal Navy. It was a decision that almost cost him his life, and the story of his war includes a harrowing account of the sinking of his first ship, HMS Ibis, which was torpedoed in 1942. After the war, Rikki returned to Glasgow to pick up the pieces of his former life and pursue his pre-war dreams of showbusiness success. Is It That Time Already? Is the story of how he fulfilled those dreams, but it is also a humorous and revealing portrait of his family and his childhood, and a highly entertaining account of a distinguished career dedicated to making people laugh. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Dead Brilliant ! 16 Oct 2001
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
A must for all fans of Super Cop, Rev. I. M. Jolly and all the rest of the Rikki Fulton characters. It's easy to see actors and performers as cold characters, but if anything comes through the pages of this book it is the warmth and affection Rikki Fulton has for he fellow man. Pure dead brilliant, so it is !

Format:Hardcover
Well written and easy to read with short chapters that made it ideal bedtime reading. The humorous childhood escapades are balanced by brushes with death as a young man serving his country. His humour is evident throughout as he makes showbusiness his life, both on and off stage. The origins of the characters Francie and Josie and his continuing friendship with Jack Milroy show the depth of feeling and respect he has for fellow performers. Above all, for all who have seen him perform either live or on television, it is easy to pause for a moment and imagine his slow deliberate voice speaking the words on the page.
