Synopsis

Bill Forsyth displays some of the fey quirkiness that would distinguish his later, better-known directorial efforts in 1979's THAT SINKING FEELING. The film details the misadventures of four aimless Scottish youths, who impulsively steal a shipment of stainless-steel sinks. Once they've made off with their booty, the boys have quite a time unloading it on prospective buyers.

This DVD contains the restored version of the film in which the voices have been dubbed with milder accents.

A Travesty 15 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
I cannot understand how a company with the resources of 2entertain can make a fundemental mistake like this and not notice. The dubbed soundtrack (presumably) for US audiences makes a mockery of a very Scottish film. It really isn't that hard to track down a copy of the OST as it was released on VHS prior to this. Will we be reduced to importing a US copy of TSF with optional Scottish Soundtrack and widescreen option a la Gregory's Girl again ?

I'm sure if North American audiences can understand the accents in Trainspotting they should have no problem with this.

If anyone from 2e is reading this I'm happy to supply the correct soundtrack and help you save face.

Heartbroken 19 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
If you've just stumbled upon this recent release and felt your heart leap with joy that one of your favourite Forsyth movies of all time is available on DVD... let me save you the trouble and expense. If you're positively giddy at the idea of a quiet night in enjoying this laugh-a-second classic then you'll just have to be patient. No doubt you'll have vivid memories of many scenes and relish the prospect of seeing, and hearing, them again. You may even recall the tingle of joy you got from hearing Clare Grogan say "a million and nine" in Gregory's Girl? Well if any of that rings true for you then keep your wallet in your pocket and what ever you do... don't buy this DVD until it gets reissued with the original soundtrack. It is quite simply "unwatchable". And if you're new to this and wondering what all the fuss is about... imagine watching, oh I don't know say, The Italian Job or Lock Stock... with upper class accents overdubbed. "Sounds like a laugh" you might even say? Well I wish I could! Jeez I'm gutted!

Disappointed 15 Sep 2009
Format:DVD
I have waited many years for this to be released on DVD but have been sorely let down by the terrible new voiceover. The entire feeling of the film has been completely lost. I can't understand why this had to be done as the only people who want to see this movie wanted it in it's original glory - no one else is interested. Surely they can release another version with the original voices as this one is shocking and unwatchable.

This is a hysterically funny movie -- at least, it is with the original Glaswegian soundtrack. After what I've read about the Edinburgh-accent dubbing, I won't buy it -- and... Read more

Who in their right minds ordered this travesty?
Note from the real Jane E Stewart: I didn't write this, and I haven't even seen the movie, original or otherwise. How amazon put this review under my name I haven't a clue. Read more

THat Sinking Feeling
I agree with all the other revies. I bought it but shouldn't. The overdubbed version which this is is grossly inferior. It looses the feel of the original. Read more
