5.0 out of 5 stars Brown rat finds Love 9 Aug 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
"That Pesky Rat" is simply one of the funniest children's books I have read in ages - the story of a brown rat who lives in a bin but longs to be a pet with a name. The cameo appearances of his friends who have made it as pets (such as Pierre the Chinchilla who lives a glamourous life with Madame Fifi) are hysterical, and the finale of the book is a happy ending with a very funny twist! This is one book I won't mind reading to my children dozens of times - the illustrations are stylish and adults can enjoy the humour as much as (or even more than)the kids can!

Thoroughly enjoyable, this book can work at many levels- a good laugh, a thought for all the pets out there, and a chance to reflect on the choices we can all make. Then there's the wonderful montages and drawings that make the book a pleasure for the eyes, one of my favourites being where the rat is thinking about how he hates to be bored...
I bought this as a supply teacher- it could form the basis of so many lessons and for so many age levels, and so many parts of the curriculum, but mainly for myself!
The main plot is a pesky rat who would like his own name, and to be someone's pet above all, even if it means having to wear a funny jumper. This is well worth paying hard back price for!

Pesky rat made my 3 years old daughter feel empathy for others. And be very amusing in the same time. It is a very funny book with catchy phrases that my little one loves to reproduce. We are reading this book constantly since my daughter was only 2 years old. Is an appropriate for very young ages as well as for older children.
My little one kept on asking me, the same as the characters in the book: "Are you sure?" Hearing this from an adult doesn`t make a difference, but when a small child says it, it shows an inquisitive side of them.
Lauren Child has my full admiration for how introspective she is when writing children`s books. I read somewhere that this book is based on a real life situation that Lauren Child has been through and that puts a different perspective on things.
It`s worth buying it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest books for kids 29 Oct 2008
Format:Paperback
This is my favourite childrens book. It is very funny. The only downside of it that I laugh every time I read it out loud to my 5 year old who then demands that I explain exactly what is funny and why which kills it a bit!
