Book Description

17 Mar 2011

Nine years ago Richard Allen fled England when his greedy, ambitious father, the Earl of Manford, betrothed him to Julia Miller, the daughter of London's wealthiest merchant. The pair can't stand each other and Richard takes to the sea, determined to live his own life.

In the Caribbean, he joins a band of treasure-hunting pirates and adopts the persona of a Frenchman named Jean-Paul. But when he is forced to return to England on an errand for his captain, he finds himself completely smitten with a married woman, Georgina Mallory. Despite her indifference to him, not to mention her husbands threats against him, he persists in seeking her affections. But when he attempts to woo her at a ball, the last thing he expects is to come face to face with Julia Miller.

Despite his son abandoning her, the Earl has refused to break the marriage contract. But when Julia tries to wreak her revenge, not all goes quite according to plan...

4.0 out of 5 stars a good Lindsey story 21 Jun 2010
By Mrs. A. Wright VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
When I saw that another Malory Novel was being published I was pleased and curious to know who the main character could be. I thought it might be one of Edward's two sons or even one of the single Anderson men. I didn't dream of it being Jean Paul first met in Drew's story. To be honest I am a little disappointed that the roles played by the Malory/ Anderson's was minor indeed. Having said that I enjoyed Richard and Julia's tale. They were lively warm and very likeable characters and like all Ms Lindsey's characters they strike sparks off one and other and the plot although rather unbelievable is rendered plausible by Ms Lindsey's immense talent. Her style is easy to read and her characters jump from the page. While I think calling it a Malory Novel is stretching it a little bit I would nevertheless recommend it to anyone who wants to escape for a very pleasant afernoon.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 7 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first book I've read from this author and unfortunately it will probably be my last. It didnt seem like any research was done at all on the period this book was supposed to be set in. Come on "Lady Candice" ??? With each turn of the page I thought to myself that the story could have been set in our times and the author wouldnt have had much to change. It was hard to believe that women could go off gallivanting about the country without chaperones, throw in some pirates, seeking for treasure. I guess we were meant to like the boisterousness of the Mallory/Anderson clan but it felt too contrived to me and there were just too many of them. The end seemed rushed. I didnt enjoy this. Sorry. Felt childish and rough around the edges. Cannot hold a candle to Georgette Heyer. There are better offerings out there.
