Megadeth has returned with a live d.v.d. titled `That one night, Live in Buenos Aires',arriving closely on the back of the latest release `United Abominations'. Without a doubt this is one of the finest music d.v.d.'s I have seen in a very long time and is the visual return of the bands 2005 concert in front of a crazed Argentinean audience in the capital city of Buenos Aires. The d.v.d. kicks off with the usual band footage of Dave Mustaine and Glen Drover talking about their expectations regarding the gig as well as some shots of the crowd etc. Mustaine and Drover also take the time to meet the fans and sit down in a park close to the hotel where they are staying to have an acoustic `sing-a-long' as everyone gets into the spirit of things. As the concert begins, the first thing that becomes apparent is the enormity of the stage and the set-up of the equipment.

Shaun Drovers drum kit is an impressive sight perched up on a drum riser with a `Greg Voelker rack system' that has the cymbals hanging from a stainless steel frame instead of cymbal stands that so often clutter the drum kit up. To the left and right of his kit is an impressive wall of Marshall speakers, along with an overhead lighting gantry and in front of the stage there is a platform that protrudes out into the audience. So far so good and guess what, it gets better? The first track `Blackmail the Universe' kicks of in unsual Megadeth fashion with Mustaine belting the riffs out and his vocals as usual are in top form. Mustaine is his usual moody self, and only defrosts after the sixth track when he acknowledges the audience and then encourages an open dialogue between the crowd and himself, but all is forgiven as he is an increadible lead guitarist and an awesome showman nonetheless.

Megadeth's That One Night: Live In Buenos Aires is arguably the band's finest live effort and certainly one of their best DVDs. The band are absolutely on fire in terms of performance and energy, the crowd are going wild for the band and the setlist is superb, what more could anyone ask for in a concert ?

In terms of the actual DVD; the Audio/Visual quality is top notch and the whole performance is captured well, with a good job made of the mixing, camerawork and editing. Everything is utterly professional and well handled, nothing is cheesy or over the top which just allows the music to do the talking.

Surprisingly; apart from frontman Dave Mustaine, even though the band's line up at the time didn't feature any musician responsible for the albums from Rust In Peace - Cryptic Writings, or indeed David Ellefson who was on every single Megadeth album until The System has Failed, the band put down a storming performance and seem to be at the top of their game, reveling in their success and fired on by the manic crowd.

(Then) New members Glen Drover on guitar, James MacDonough on Bass and on Shawn Drover on Drums are all great additions to the band, and it isn't difficult to see why Glen lasted another studio album and Shawn remains with the band to this day.

The concert includes all the classic Megadeth material you would expect like 'Peace Sells...,' 'Holy Wars... The Punishment Due,' 'Symphony Of Destruction,' and 'In My Darkest Hour,' as well as some less played numbers such as 'I'll Be There,' and the superb 'Set The World Afire.'

Additionally, their then new The System Has Failed record is well represented and the songs fit well into the set along side all the fan favourites.

Megadeth live in Argentina in 2005 in front of a huge crowd of rabid metal fans. Witnessing this live document, it is no wonder why so many artists choose to record their live products in South America - the manic audience is deafeningly loud, and even sings along some of the guitar riffs!

While the authenticity of the band's more recent live offerings has been questioned by many, this appears to be 100% live. The band is in fine form, especially main man Dave Mustaine himself, and the songs are delivered sharply yet enthusiastically.

The setlist is a nearly all-covering trip through Megadeth's back catalogue, with a couple of surprise numbers thrown in, including "Set The World Afire" and even one from the much-maligned "Risk," "I'll Be There." Three songs are included from the then-latest studio release (the comeback album "The System Has Failed"), although they had played more from that record on other gigs of the tour.

Complaints? Well, the disc features practically no extras, with only an alternative version of "Symphony Of Destruction" serving as bonus material And while the playing is flawless in itself, you can't help but feel that this is more like "Dave and the boys" rather than a genuine band effort, given that apart from Mustaine himself, none of the musicians in the line-up had appeared on any Megadeth album before. Even long-time serving bassist David Ellefson was absent at the time.

Still, the energy level of the concert is high enough, and the atmosphere can be felt even on the other side of the screen. Despite the lack of extras, the live show itself makes this release highly recommended.
