I've just put the book down after reading it from cover to cover and I have to say that I am impressed with the author's writing style. This is a wonderfully crafted tale that is surprisingly mature for a first book.
I would thoroughly recommend this as good holiday reading material.

Move over Alan Titchmarsh! Let a real writer/gardener show you how it's done. Budding new author Philip Robinson reveals a blossoming talent in this stunning debut novel.

From his fertile imagination sprouts a tale of love, loss, secrets and betrayal. Earthy yet cerebral, this dark, rich loam of a book bursts with vivid descriptions of the natural world. Yet it also hints at the true wilderness within each one of us, a wilderness barely constrained by the neat hedges and borders of social acceptability. His characters are forced to confront not only the skeletons that inhabit the abandoned potting sheds of their past, but also to deal with dark desires germinating within.

Yet amidst the approaching shadow of the inevitable denouement are green shoots of hope. A must for everyone who loves gardening (or gardeners!). Let's hope that Philip Robinson doesn't let the grass grow under his feet, and writes another one soon.
