Amazon.co.uk Review

Having taken three years off to have a baby, Jamelia--UK R&B's one-time most likely star--has a lot of catching up to do. Thankfully, Thank You extends way beyond where her self assured debut, Drama, left off. If anything, watching from the sidelines as R&B's taken over pop culture seems to have galvanised her. This is more rebirth than comeback--her determination to make up lost ground has her upping both hers and R&B's game, rolling out staggeringly strident and imaginative backing tracks of pneumatic beats and sci-fi cool for every song, not just the singles.

Crucially though, her second album isn't just a flexing of production muscle. The slick bounce of "Club Hoppin'", "Off Da Endz"'s mystical shimmy and the predatory "Taxi" all come with hypnotic choruses that are hard to shift. Elsewhere, "Dirty Dirty" pitches her still-sweet vocals against a new-found gift for hard-bitten rap, while the title track showcases remarkable songwriting maturity, pairing a tale of domestic violence with beautifully hopeful pop, without resorting to overwrought slush. Such is the strength of the new Jamelia's character that even when obligatory big-name US guest stars Rah Digga and Bubba Sparxxx roll up, she's still the main attraction. More than anyone could have expected or hoped for, without question, Thank You returns Jamelia to her rightful place as UK R&B's most likely star. --Dan Gennoe

THANK YOU JAMELIA!! 6 Oct 2003
Format:Audio CD
Three years since her debut 'Drama', Jamelia returns with her new album 'Thank You', a classy, self-assured and ultra modern affair. Jamelia has truly ascended to her throne once more as the UK's r'n'b princess.
First single from the album, 'BOUT' (Rah Digga) is a catchy cut of r'n'b with Jamelia in true feisty mode. Follow-up 'Superstar' is the most pop of any of the album's songs, and the most accessible, deserving of its chart success in the UK.
'Dirty Dirty' sees Jamelia go into rap territory with the verses, sounding like a veteran of that musical world, and the chorus is one of the catchiest on the album. 'Club Hoppin' is infinitely cool, a true r'n'b club song, with Jamelia and her girls on a night on the town.
'Thank You' is the tale of the domestic violence that Jamelia suffered at the hands of her boyfriend, but is dealt with in a tender way. The first time you listen to this song, it isn't quite clear what it's about, but after the first few times you hear it, the lyrics really hit home, and show Jamelia's maturity not only as a singer but as a songwriter too.
'Bounce' and 'Life' are again super stylish songs that showcase Jamelia's talents, as are all the other songs on the album, from the quirky 'Antidote' and 'Cutie', to the garage biting 'Off Da Endz', which features Asher D from So Solid Crew. The only dud track on the album is 'B.I.T.C.H', but the skip button on your CD player can easily sort that out!
If you like music by the likes of Mya, Mis-teeq and Beyonce, you will no doubt love this. So, with this sophomore album, Jamelia has really set the benchmark for other UK urban acts to follow with thoughtful songwriting which produces catchy songs, sweet vocals, and ultimately a fantastic album.

I bought the original issue of this album that Jamelia released and it was fantastic. All 12 tracks were without fault and it was an album that you could listen over and over without getting bored of it.

1. Bout - Great song, perfect if your feeling tired and need waking up :) 4*
2. Off Da Endz feat Asher D - Probably the worst song on the album but is still great. 3*
3. Taxi - Perfect song, great lyrics and very catchy. You'll be shouting 'Taxi Taxi' all day with this one. 5*
4. Thank You - Good song, shows that Jamelia puts her experiences into her music. 4*
5. Dirty Dirty - I love this song! The first time I heard it, I didn't like it but it really really grows on you. 5*
6. B.I.T.C.H. - Very clever lyrics and again very catchy. 5*
7. Superstar - This is one of Jamelia's most popular songs and is one of the best on the album. 5*
8. Life - Good song 3*
9. Club Hoppin - Another really catchy song. 4*
10. Antidote - Really catchy, you'll be singing this all day. 4*
11. Cutie - Yo Yo Yo Yo! (You'll understand when you hear the song :->). 4*
12. Bounce - Really good, this should be released as a single, would reach number 1. 5*

And these are the tracks from the original album! With 2 extra tracks, can you really say no?

An outstanding talent 15 July 2004
Format:Audio CD
It would be worth buying this album for the title track alone. "Thank You" must be one of the most incredibly catchy tunes ever written, and I found myself setting my Mac's iTunes to loop it over and over again. As a composition, it's refreshingly spare, and part of its power is that it's quite short, and you feel like you want it to keep playing over and over. Haunting, anthemic, powerful, uplifting, none of these quite does justice to one of the most brilliant compositions of modern times. And through it all, Jamelia's voice, a real siren's call, drawing you into her world and making you want to inhabit it, sexy, intelligent and witty.

And the pleasant surprise is that the other tracks on the album aren't the disappointment one's become accustomed to on many other chart-topping artistes' albums. These are all well-crafted, superbly produced and worthy of merit in their own right. Checking the track notes reveals that Jamelia is no slouch, and has played a part in writing most of the tracks. The fact that she also looks a million dollars sure doesn't hurt her image either...

Jamelia is an artist to be taken seriously, and I look forward to watching her career blossom further. As for this album, buy it -- and at the price Amazon are offering it, it's a no-brainer.
