If you are overwhelmed with the amount of information from other travel guides, this is the one for you. If you are only visiting for a holiday it is perfect - lots of visuals and basic information in managable chunks.
Not one to purchase if you prefer to call a holiday "travelling" and don't like tourist spots!

This book is very well produced and looks beautiful, with almost every double page containing copious illustrations. It made us want to visit the country. However it's definitely better at a distance: my friend's Lonely Planet book was the one we used for information about the best restaurants, accommodation, travel arrangements etc.

These DK guides may not tell you where the cheapest beer in Chaing Mai can be found, or where to find the wackier entertainments (try Footprint guides, which seem to pretty much on the money for Real stuff) but they are absolutely gorgeous, and as a result do make superb souvenirs. They're deceptively informative, and generally pretty accurate, too.
