A lovely, lovely story about a piece of scruffy, (very old) and dirty silk, wrapped around an extremely old statue of Buddha. Sent to the U.S as a favour, but which turns out to be smuggled, not out of Thailand but ancient China. A piece of contraband, by way of an unsuspecting tourist, caught up (unawares) in international artifacts trade.
Read on; this story covers many things - buddhism, Bangkok, the arts of museum curators/conservators, tourists, and lastly criminals. Not to be missed!

I just love catching up with amateur sleuth and owner of Crewel World Needlestore, Betsy Devonshire and her gang of friends. Betsy sounds like such a likeable, wholesome person and this, the twelth book in the series sees her at her crime-solving best with some of the other 'Monday Bunch' along for the ride.

This time its Doris Valentine's turn to take centre stage- Doris has had a minor role for a couple of books now, but following her return from holiday in Thailand things take a sinister turn. Doris transports back a Buddah artifact for a fellow American overseas, but when the man at the antique store she drops it off at is murdered and she herself is later the target of a crime, things grow a bit complicated. It is of course, up to Betsy to pull on her sleuthing hat and save the day once more...

Another fun, cosy read. If you like easy-reading mysteries with nicely established characters and settings as well as a decent plot then this is a series I would whole-heartedly recommend. The small town of Excelsior is the perfect place for a crime with gossipy neighbours and everyone knowing each others business! I would however suggest starting with one of the earlier books in this series, just to get a feel for who is who. Dare I say that I see perhaps a hint of possible romance implied for Betsy in future, reading between the lines in this? One can only hope!

Give Monica Ferris a shot- you won't regret it.
