Product Description

Product Description

Based on the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, this unique and comprehensive resource--the first in a series of three volumes--provides resources for an entire year of sermons and offers practical help to preachers and others involved using the Revised Common Lectionary. Beginning with Advent, it deals with the texts for Year B. Each of the four texts--the Old Testament, Psalter, Gospel, and Epistle--are treated in relation to each Sunday and important festival day, including Christmas, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday. A brief introduction gives the general thrust of the texts and the relationship among them with emphasis upon interpretation of the texts. Suggestions concerning the implications for life today are also included.

A Preachers Book 21 Feb 2012

Having been one of Brueggemann's former students I had very high expectations before purchasing the book. Let me say that I am not disappointed. The book is an exciting read that brings to life the lectionary text. The metaphors are so clear one can close their eyes and imagine being in the text as you read.
Great resource 6 Jan 2010
By E. S. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Each week features a brief introduction to that week's texts as a whole, as well as commentary on each individual text. The commentary is short enough to be easily readable even during the busy week of a parish pastor, but long enough to go beyond superficial notes. I appreciated the variety of having the perspective of four different writers each week, and the consistency of reading those same voices week after week. The writing was accessible and understandable, while still being thoughtful and addressing important ideas with a high level of scholarship. Very useful for anyone who engages with the lectionary texts on a regular basis.
