This latest book by Colchester is really essential reading for anyone involved in Textiles. The sections on tecnological developments and the growing awareness and practice of green issues in Textiles are good reason to buy it alone. Any student of Textiles at art school will certainly need it as this is an intelligent global survery of how Textiles is developing as a subject today. I also strongly recommend it to anyone else who is seriously interested in the subject as it stands almost alone in the breath and depth of its information and content.

very informative 29 Jan 2011

Format:Paperback
a really well researched, informative book, covering many different aspects of textile design and production. There is a lot of writing but this is backed up with good size relevant images. Not so useful as a sourcebook or to flick through and get ideas but really useful for students on degree courses as it looks at the context behind the designs and has a lot more depth than just pretty pictures and the name of the designer. I study printed textile design and I have found it invaluable to help with my essays and give me information on designers. Highly recommended.

The history of these textiles' invention and changing use makes for a fine coverage of trends and cultural traditions 19 Oct 2009
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
TEXTILES TODAY: A GLOBAL SURVEY OF TRENDS AND TRADITIONS surveys a rapidly-changing global arena of fabrics and textiles, considering collaborative projects between fabric makers and fashion designers and offering plenty of photo examples of new textiles and their applications. The history of these textiles' invention and changing use makes for a fine coverage of trends and cultural traditions in a title highly recommended for any college-level collection.

Do you want to know about all the new exciting ways that fabric is being used? I was amazed to learn that stents in heart surgery are being made from fabric. Also, that sports venues are covered with fabric roofs. This book is a wonderful, well written and researched book about the incredible, innovative ways fabric is being used all over the world. I think this book would be invaluable to art schools' libraries.
