The descriptions of what types of metals are best to use and the list of suppliers are worth the purchase price. There are basic instructions in everything from knitting to weaving to bobbin lace. A beginner crafter will appreciate the instructions and find a very useful book. As an experienced worker with nearly all the textile techniques in the book, I found the inspiration to branch into metalwork and some exciting project ideas. However, I felt a lot of the book was wasted, because the metal techniques are not difficult to master for someone familar with the corresponding yarn craft.

I borrowed this book from my college library because I wanted to start crocheting in wire and it's so inspiring and useful that I'm definitely going to have to buy a copy.

There's masses of fantastic information about a wide selection of different textile techniques, including weaving, basketry, crochet and braiding. As someone who knows a lot about certain techniques like knitting and crochet but nothing at all about some of the others, I really appreciated the broad range of options that were presented.

Fisch makes working with metal (a material I've always found very offputting) seem approachable and possible and I thought the information about which metals are appropriate for which techniques and how to source the metal and tools was completely indispensable.

All this information is merged with lots of inspiring pictures from a wide range of jewellers and sculptors that show how individual and adaptable these techniques can be. As a sculptor, I was pleased that the information wasn't confined to one narrow field but explored the many ways that using textile approaches with metal could cross boundaries between jewellery, craft, clothing and sculpture.

Although only time will tell, I'm pretty sure that this book is one that I'm going to repeatedly refer to, even once I've learnt more about the various techniques highlighted.

An excellent guide inspiring ideas for both metal sculpture and jewelry. A beautiful, as well as a thoughtful presentation of textile history and techniques adapted for use with metals. The photographs are elegant and eloquent in the information that they alone convey. A remarkable book useful to both students of jewelry techniques and to masters of metal work. Five Stars to Arline Fisch!
