I spent many a long nights in the ER flipping through the pages of this book while in residency. Even though I am no longer in the pediatric ER per se, I find this very useful for the office based practice and the early evaluation and treatment of the hospitalized patient. The algorithms are easy to follow and evidence based when possible.

Our ED uses the Textbook of PEM as the definitive resource for emergencies in children. This latest edition is the best so far, building upon the previous editions. Especially helpful are the Signs and Symptoms chapters in the first half of the book, including algorithms that guide the reader rapidly through a simplified approach. This textbook is an essential resource for anyone who cares for urgent and emergent pediatric patients.
