Product Description

Product Description

The Textbook of Medicine provides a comprehensive account of clinical medicine incorporating the language and ideas of modern medical science. The book discusses clinical medicine in the context of the growth in our understanding of the mechanisms of disease. The book is pitched at the level of the junior doctor in training while at the same time it will appeal to all medical students who desire more than a fairly synoptic account of clinical medicine as found in books like Kumar: Clinical Medicine and Davidson's Principles & Practice of Medicine. The necessity to keep fully up-to-date applies to trainee and practising physicians who are all required to maintain a satisfactory knowledge of all areas of general medicine. This book provides the level of information that this market requires.

The website (new for this edition) includes additional materials - MCQs, illustrations and case studies - that are not in the book.

I remember seeing the first edition of this book at a book fair, and when I joined medical school, this was my trusted companion.
It provides the facts in a comprehensive but understandable manner and the information is organised extremely logically and is very easy to follow. It has long since been on my bookshelf and I only recently bought the 4th edition as my 2nd edition was looking worse for wear, having been read and re-read so often. If you like to keep asking 'why' in medicine, then this is the book for you!

An excellent textbook of medicine. Covers both basic and clinical. Could be difficult for beginners but absolutetly interesting for doctors and senior students. I look at it as bridge between (Davidson, Kumar) in one hand and (Harrisons, Cecil Textbooks of medicine) on the other hand.
