Review

"This textbook is a well used standard…appreciated by professionals." (E–STREAMS, September 2007)

"This is an excellent teaching volume, which could readily be used not only be undergraduates and graduate students but also by fellows in clinical chemistry training programs." (Clinical Chemistry, October 2006)

"Recommended as a primary teaching text in Biochemistry courses: noted for its depth and organization, well–written and grand in scope, the chapters moving at a perfect pace to give the student a lasting lesson in the biochemical processes." (Electric Review, September/October 2006)

"...comprehensive and...appropriately updated. It should continue to help medical students see the relevance of biochemistry to medicine, which will only increase during their future careers. (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education, May/June 2006)

I'm a medical student and it was the choice between this and Stryer's equally inimitable volume. Both have alot going for them - I think the Stryer is slightly more accessible but here Devlin provides a comprehensive reference for practically any biochemistry a medical student might require.

The clinical correlations are a life saver for assignments and although at first the book seems daunting, after a year with it is has become a friend.

This is a wonderful work which in all probability will join the likes of lehninger, voet, stryer and a few more names in the biochemistry hall of fame. First plus point in this book is the multi author approach, this enables maximum and comprehensive coverage of every topic. Every topic has been covered in a very thorough manner and the board questions for practice are extremely useful. Secondly, in this age filled with review books and medical students rushing through the basic medical sciences in a jiffy without realising the importance or the magnitude of the sciences and their implications Devlin has produced a book which not only builds a solid bio chemical understanding of the nature of the human body and disease but also emphasises on the practical applications of the subject and its revelance and application to a clinical setting. The clinical coorelations boxes are a brilliant idea which medical students and professors are sure to appreciate. Don't be discouraged by the sheer size of the book as every word read from it could be the difference between being the best doctor and being just another doctor. Hats off to Devlin

After years in wards, update and refresh is needed. Basic books from the medical school years are not enough and they seem very simple. However, in my mind remained the Devlin idea of clinical correlation. From the physician point of view, It is a good reference for studying biochemistry again. Clinical correlations are serious and not typical examples for students.
