This man was just too talented to be real. A master of so many styles - country, blues, Tex Mex, psychedelic rock, western swing - and a brilliant musician (check out his guitar on the Austin City Limits DVD), it seemed impossible that no biography existed. Then I found this on Amazon. It's well researched without getting dry and dull, full of anecdotes and quotes from Doug and trots along at a nice pace. My only gripe is that it's a little short but what the heck, you can't have everything. Great interviews with his sons and his long-time musical collaborator Augie Myers and revealing photos of Doug in his 70s heyday which I had never seen anywhere else. Worth reading if you want an insight into a huge musical talent and a founding father of the Austin country-hippy scene of the early 1970s.
