Incredible story 13 May 2008
Format:Paperback
Beautifully written with amazing characters.

Wonderful to see Nicholas and Lin again.

Can not get enough of this wonderful community that Carolyn Davidson has masterfully created.

Brace is a gorgeous character and it was wonderful to see him again.

Sarah coming into his life with Stephen is such a beautiful piece of writing.

Carolyn Davidson's characters jump from the page and get you very much involved with their story.

Couldn't put it down and is definitely worth the read.

5th IN THE TEXAS SERIES - SHERIFF CAULFIELD 25 April 2005
By M. Hartmann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Wow! 5 books trailing in a series takes a lot of stamina.

TEXAS LAWMAN kind of brings most all of the characters to a closing. CD did not leave us wondering what happened to her family of characters.

I will admit that I have not found my copy of "A Marriage By Chance" #1? An introduction of J. Cleary.

When I started "The Texan" with the story of U.S. Marshall Jonathan Cleary and his love, Augusta - I didn't know what to expect. Was Great!

In "Tempting A Texan" Cleary sends Nicholas Garvey and his bride, & niece to Benning, Texas [about 50 miles away]where they find Faith Hudson of "Texas Gold" and of course then we meet Sheriff Brace Caulfield, who has a thing for Faith.

"Texas Lawman" gives more depth to the Caulfield character [1901] and the young woman he decides to marry.

Theirs turns out to be a tender love story where our lady, Sarah Murphy has no doubts about marrying the Sheriff.

The story involves her obtaining custody of her twin sister's son and she is willing to do anything to make that happen. Even shoot the boy's abusive father, Lester. Then his conniving brothers show up. They need Stephen to collect an inheritance and wouldn't mind taking Sarah along too.

Brace finds himself willing to help her and obtain a wife into the bargain. When Nicholas shows up in Benning it is about 1897 and Brace is well established so I wonder just how old he is. He considers himself [at first] too old for Sarah, I think she is about 20 or so.

There is a wonderful bonding between Brace and little Stephen that tugs at Sarah's heart.

It is not too action packed but has its moments [especially when Sarah is threatened with rape]. Nicholas and Brace and a group of men ride to the rescue.

CD has made up a group of wonderful characters in what I call her Benning series. They are well worth reading and keeping.

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED - I gotta find the first book -

This is the story of the sheriff of Benning, Texas and a good friend to all. He's everything we'd expect in a hero.

Sadly just mediocre... 8 Jan 2005
By Amanda - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the first time I've been this disappointed by this author. The way this couple meets was very fun and unique, but after that the story just reads like an episode of the "Walton's." The couple is "sugary sweet" thru the whole story. While I've often wished with other romances for the couples to have less "Drama." I guess now I know that it makes for a very boring read.

I devour 3-4 books a week. This book put me to sleep 6 night's in a row! I'm sitting down to read for the night and am 6 pages from finishing this book, and I can't bring myself to finish it. I don't want to waste the 5 minutes, so I decided to write a review instead.

What really had me boggled is at the point of the "Dramatic Climax," there was absolutely no drama! Someone's life is at stake, and they're all just casually making plans! "Well, I'll go by the house before I set out to the rescue, want me to makes some snacks for the road..." (My version) I couldn't believe it.

I gave this 3 stars because there aren't any major flaws, it was just so dull and mediocre. I'm sorry to have wasted the week on it.
