4.0 out of 5 stars Great romantic suspense 18 July 2014
By Jo-Anne
Format:Kindle Edition
Annie is sent to look at some land her step-brother, Sonny, bought in Texas. When she gets to the property, she runs into Burke who asks what she is doing on his land. Annie has no self-confidence because she has been mentally and physically abused. She doesn't trust men and sure doesn't want to get Burke angry but shows him the deed to the land, proving that her step-brother owns it. Burke is a handsome, strong rancher (though pretty gullible) who wants nothing to do with women after his ex-wife took him to the cleaners in their divorce. He does want children so needs a wife but doesn't want love so he has been advertising for a wife. Annie wants a family too so she applies for the 'job'. They get married and everything is actually going pretty good until ex-wife, Alice, shows up and makes life miserable for them.

This book was really well written with lots of suspenseful scenes that kept me turning the pages. I didn't want to stop reading this so I stayed up most of the night. Alice was such a witch and tried to get rid of Annie in so many terrible ways that I didn't want to believe that someone could actually be as horrible as she was. And then we find out that she has teamed up with Annie's abusive step-brother so they can get Annie's huge inheritance. I felt so sorry for Annie because she wanted to be loved so much but she ends up with Burke who just wants a partner. Then her life gets even worse when Alice and Sonny are against her. You will really get caught up in the lives of the characters in this book. I loved the surprising twists and turns in this story. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Page Turner. 12 Jan 2014
By Tracy,
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First dip in the world of Kathleen Ball, I love her writing. I was hooked on this page turner. Stayed awake late just to finish it. Couldn't bring myself to stop.
Burke and Annie's story is pure romance until his ex wife Alice shows her face and starts causing mayhem.
I hope we'll hear more from Dawson Ranch in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars from brow beaten to strength 27 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Annie travels to Texas for her brother and promptly falls in love with the place, the people and the cowboy next door. read on as she asks him to consider her for his wife and he then asks her when she is back in the big city. Read what happens when his evil ex-wife turns up and tries to break up the marriage, how she believes because she was beaten as a child by her step father and then her step brother, ridiculed by her ex-finance that she can never be loved, never trust a man, or be beautiful. Read as she discovers she is worth millions from her mother and that her step brother as been using her money. Will she get her happy ever after............. of course she will but read how it happens.

3.0 out of 5 stars Something missing 7 Aug 2014
By Hespy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book -the pace was good and the storyline had plenty of twists and turns. I just feel that there was something missing. The characters were a bit one dimensional and I don't think we were given enough insight into Burke. Not sure if its the way it was written in the first person but something was off. I read a lot of books and as much as you felt sympathy or outrage for some of the characters it all felt a bit flat. This could have been a really great book. The plots line was good and the characters all had a solid foundation but needed fleshing out more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute rubbish! 20 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Don't waste your time with this load of rubbish! I'm not surprised it's free , but quite frankly it's too much of an ask even to read it for nothing! I can only think the other reviewers are in their teens and never read anything beyond a magazine story! Very wimpy gullible female, no character development very wooden style of writing, completely implausible storyline and really what newly wed wife allows an ex wife to live with them. Utter tosh!

2.0 out of 5 stars rushed and highly implausible plot
The writing felt very stilted at points and the behaviour of the lead characters was downright odd. Probably one to skip I'm afraid.

4.0 out of 5 stars it's ok
It was just OK. I just wanted to scream at Burke for being so blind and at Annie for being so naive towards Alice. However, it was a nice story.
