I for one love slasher flicks and horror movies, especially the ultra gory ones. This certanly didnt come into the category of anything even remotley bloody or violent, it has some bloodnless scenes but not as much of an atmosphere as the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre film to make them disturbing or add effect. And i was shocked by the fact that on the back of this they describe this film as "the most controversial horror movie of all time". As this is barely violent OR well know.
Putting all of that aside this is actually a decent slasher film and is surprisingly well acted featuring some actors you might see in some more modern horror flicks. Leatherface, the infamous and much loved horror icon, looks great in this Texas Chainsaw Movie and has the most incredible chainsaw!!!! The story is basically the same as every other TCM film but does have a better cast and a more fast paced story as well as a very wel paced out story. I would suggest most slasher fans watch this as its much better than the abysmal "next generation" Texas Chainsaw Massacre film and is a decent addition to a great slasher series. Enjoy

This review is from: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III - Leatherface [DVD] (DVD)
I first saw this film while living in Georgia, U.S.A., in it's R-Rated (Restricted) version. For years thereafter I heard and read that a "stronger" version still existed. Now, with it's DVD release here in the UK, I am able to say that the rumours were true. The DVD is absolutely packed with extra features, including an outstanding, in-depth "making of" type documentary, as well as some pretty shocking deleted scenes. The only thing missing is the film's original trailers, quite surprisingly. The film itself is extremely well-acted, especially by the lead, Kate Hodge. It is however, not the most pleasant film you will ever see and if the filmmakers intended it to be a grueling and punishing experience, they definitely succeeded. Ken Foree, from the original Dawn of the Dead, is also superb in a key role. The script was written by a noted American horror novel writer, who specialised in "splatter" or over-the-top horror. This may give you some indication of the nature of the proceedings. The film doesn't entirely gel, probably due to the many cuts and all of the editing to comply with the censors, in order to secure a more mainstream release. Unfortunately, despite featuring several strong performances, excellent (and very gruesome special make-up effects!!) and stunt work supervised by Kane Hodder, who portrayed Jason Vorhees in several of the Friday the 13th films, the completed film is left damaged and confused in several key places. But, it is still one of the better entries in this particular series and is well-worth a look as a unique and interesting horror film. The DVD gives you the option of watching either the uncut (self-labelled X-rated) version or the cut version. There seems to be only about three or so minutes difference in the two version's running times, however. Also featured in the cast in an extremely impressive and prominent role is Viggo Mortensen of The Lord Of The Rings. Peter Jackson, who directed The Lord Of The Rings film trilogy, was even once in the running to direct this film!! The notoriety of this film and it's unique cast are reasons enough alone to at least see, if not own this DVD.

OK, i know that sequels rarely live up to the first film, but this is just a joke. The " script" is all but non existent. You have a leading lady that is so wooden, she's in the IKEA catalogue. Her man has the charisma of a grape and may as well not be there. The lack of any type of good or bad emotion is just constant throughout with the entire cast. The only one who comes out of this with any dignity is the retarded Gas Station owner...At least he was trying!!!. This will not be considered a notch on Viggo Mortensen's C.V either if he has anything to do with it. Not his finest hour. He is totally unconvincing. The " Uncut" version is suitable for the Disney channel as the gore is so unrealistic, it's laughable. You see way too much of Leatherface, which shatters any chilling illusions we had about him, he turns into a huge joke here. I don't know if having Leatherface as a favourite " uncle" of a little girl was meant to come across as sick and twisted, but it had the opposite effect. It wouldn't look out of place on the Brady Bunch, i was dying laughing!!!. Leatherface doesn't get extreme enough and his body count is awful. He isn't violent or nasty enough in this, which defeats the object totally. The fact that the leading lady does an Olympic steeplechase the second she she rips her hands out of a nailed chair after a night of abuse, as opposed to rolling round in agony and being to weak to do anything due to loss of blood, puts the laugh count up to the max. The hero who saves the leading lady at the end is as convincing as a carpet on an ice rink and has the screen presence of a carrot on a train track. It's not rushed or badly thought out, it hasn't been thought out whatsoever!!!. A shameless, pathetic cash in on the franchise. That's 80 minutes of my life and 50 pence that i will never get back again!!!.
