From Amazon.co.uk

The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure-and-simple slasher-movie formula: introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark. --Bret Fetzer

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning film to experience on Blu Ray, 5/5* 2 July 2011

The film itself is incredible, a very worthy remake of a horror classic and 10 times better then most of the horror remakes made after it. Anyway, less about the movie and more about the Blu Ray. This film looks stunning in 1080p in contrast to 480p on the DVD version(which I also have). Every detail is pin sharp, including facial shots where you can see the finest details (e.g. hair, sweat etc.). Landscape shots look excellent and vivid. All in all the picture looks great. Horror films are perfect for Blu Ray, it helps enhance the experience a horror film gives the viewer, with the gruesome details more sharper then on a DVD and the terrifying sounds much more clearer too, it makes you feel like you're right inside the movie.
All in all a great film to experience on Blu Ray and with a reasonable price, it is most definitely worth buying.

What can I say. I'm an avid horror fan but have never cared much about the 1974 version of 'The Texas Chanisaw Masacre'. I know some people will hate me for saying that, but it just seemed over hyped and didn't live up to my expectations.

So when I watched the 2003 version I wasn't expecting much. But how wrong I was. It's more of a slasher thriller than a horror, but boy, it's well paced and never leaves you feeling bored. The gore isn't emphasised too much like in movies today and it's just a fun film to watch. I can honestly say I prefer this to the original.

All I can say to people is watch both and make your own mind up.

5.0 out of 5 stars way scarier 5 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Format:DVD
The texas chainsaw massacre is a fine example of a great remake. Although it starts off really rubbish with a bunch of teens getting stoned and listening to "sweet home alabama", it all of a sudden explodes into extreme horror. What is so brilliant is that it keeps true to the original version. It starts slowly but in a good way so it gives you time to think what is happening. The acting is mediocre apart from R.lee ermie who is scary. Within a few minutes (about 10) the film starts kicking in. In 20 minutes someone gets in the back of the head with some sort of axe or club and gets dragged into a room and leatherface slams the door shut in that really scary way (like in the original). 30 minutes in,aaaahhhhhhh here we go.
Marcus Nispel really introduced the chainsaw in a brilliant and terrifying way. The film has now kicked in. Leatherface bursts through the door cuts some poor blokes leg off (eugh!!) and carries him to his lair. Now what makes this film scary is the saw, the atmosphere, the people, the tension, leatherface's care for nothing (puts the guy on a meathook and puts a handful of salt onto the guys chopped off leg) and finnaly how fast leatherface can run. In the original leatherface jogs slowly but in this film he runs like the wind!
It is quite hard to explain the terror in this horrific movie.
But behold there is one minor but annoying fault. There are too many areas where the kids run and hide. I leave you with this helpful conclusion: the original is more disturbing but the remake is ten times scarier and grisly.
