5.0 out of 5 stars At last! UNCUT golden age Avery! 17 July 2007

It's always been a surprise to me how little of Tex Avery's output was on DVD - and I had to go to French Amazon to get a 4 disc set....so since I have many of the cartoons on this set, why buy it? BECAUSE my friends this pair o' discs contains not only ALL the theatrically released Droopy cartoons (both the Avery and the last ones by Michael Lah) it contains them in their ORIGINAL forms. Too often these cartoons have been hacked or the soundtrack "blipped" ("Droopy's Good Deed" is a classic example) in order to accomodate the modern erroneous belief that cartoons are for children and that a cartoon made for adults in 1947 should adhere to the politically correct mores of sixty years later. There is a disclaimer that the cartoons reflect a time and place whose attitudes are not those of present day Warner Bros and that reflect a view of some members of society that nowadays is wholly unacceptable. These cartoons are released for adult collectors and "may not be suitable for children"
By such disclaimers Uncle Tom and Blackface jokes may be shown secure in the knowledge that WE HAVE BEEN WARNED. These attitudes existed, and to pretend they didn't is to invite them to return.
"Dumb-Hounded" "The Shooting of Dan McGoo" "Drag-a-long Droopy" "Three Little Pups"... any of these would make this set a must have and they are ALL there in splendid condition.
If we don't buy them Warners won't release 'em so for the sake of the ones (hopefully) yet to come BUY THESE TWO DVDs FOR DROOPY'S SAKE!
You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!! A must for any cartoon fan!! 24 July 2012
Well, what can we say about this set? Its been done now and Droopys complete classical theatrical shorts are released!

All 17 Tex Avery cartoons, 6 directed by Michael Lah and 1 cartoon by Dick Lundy, a true MGM masterpiece of a set.

These shorts are a true mirror of Tex Averys genius of timing, finesse and skill with stories for each cartoon. Droopy has become such a household name and this set really does show his deeper roots as a dozy dog.

I love the fact that Tex introduces naughty jokes, random humour, slapstick and just brilliance.

Within this set you get to see a few now familliar faces such as The Wolf, Spike (not to be mistaken with Tom and Jerrys, Spike)Sexy Red Riding Hood.

The downfall which has been picked up by the buffs like myself is the digital clean-up process, DVNR. It effects only 4 cartoons thankfully, so its not enough to deter from this set at all, just a minor pain and its a use and tool for sloppiness and laziness. I'd rather have the odd few grains and specks...But, its still the best set restoration of droopy Warner have ever released theatrically.

Now, the dvnr is a pain, but the set is a wonderful addition to any budding collection. The packaging is a slip case with 2 disc holders with the shorts listed on the inner sleeve with the director of each short.

I think now we need the rest of the Tex cartoons to be restored and slapped onto dvd. He has so much to offer with Spike, The Wolf, Screwy Squirrel and Blacky the cat.

Now, I know this set is Region 1 but it is Multi Region so it will play on a Region 2 dvd player. This a multi region dvd set! :D

Overall, buy this set!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works fine in the UK 27 Dec 2011
Just wanted to add that I got this for Christmas and it works in an old Panasonic DVD player and a new Sony unit. Worth getting - especially for the classic 'Deputy Droopy'...

5.0 out of 5 stars Droopy for Region 2 DVD Players 17 Sep 2010
Droopy for Region 2 DVD Players:
This collection has been excellently reviewed by others but I would like to add that, although marked as a region 1 (USA) release and therefore supposedly unsuitable for Region 2 (Europe) DVD players, my copy IS! It works without flaw on my region 2 DVD players (checked on two of them).

It's a Warner Bros release and I have also found this to be the case with these other Warner releases: Animaniacs Vols 1, 2 and 3 and Pinky and the Brain Vols 2 and 3 - I've yet to acquire Vol 1 but would expect this to be fine, too.

So, thanks, whoever is giving us Brits the chance to view this ace material from the States!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun 30 Jun 2014

This is old fashioned cartoon humour of the best kind: a couple of places are non PC in present terms, but the fun always shines through and there is nothing that should really offend anyone.
