"Testament" is the story of a Californian family living in a town in the fallout zone of nuclear weapons aimed at the nearby San Francisco. It shows, better than any other movie or series that I've seen (excepting, perhaps, "Threads") the human cost of nuclear war as the town's population begins to die off from radiation sickness, slowly at first, but with gathering momentum as time goes on. Beautifully acted and filmed, it also features a very young Kevin Costner in a bit part!

Well worth the small price, I think.

Having watched this movie for the first time last night, I thought I'd look it up on Amazon to see what others thought of it. Must admit to being very surprised by the highly negative review below, as I found Testament to be powerful and genuinely moving. It's a very understated take on the nuclear apocalypse, but that is its strength. This is a very human drama, which lavish special effects would have diluted. The poignancy of the childrens' school play carrying on as if nothing had happened was deeply touching and I defy anyone not to have a lump in their throat when Jane Alexander (marvellous performance!) discovers the last message from her dead husband on the answerphone, before stripping its batteries.

This is certainly grim subject matter, but it is handled sensitively and beautifully. Testament delivers a far more potent anti-war message than most other more lavish and formulaic movies covering the same theme.

A little boring in the beginning, but then a fantastic film. So sad and moving. If You like a quiet movie with a lot of good acting, this is the film to watch.

This is a movie about a nuclear holocaust which a mother with three children are cut of from the entire civilian life. That results in a disparate and unforeseeing atmosphere. But the love amongst the family especially by the mother who takes care for the children with all her force and without here husband creates a very deep emotional scene in the entire movie.
