FIRST TIME ON DVD & DIGITALLY RESTORED - Terry Pratchett's Truckers is released on DVD in its original broadcast format. It was previously available only on VHS as a cut down feature length episode.

Broadcast on ITV from 10 January 1992 through to 3rd April 1992, this much loved stop animation TV series is from the revered production house Cosgrove Hall, the makers of Dangermouse.

All 13 episodes.

The first book by Terry Pratchett to be adapted for either the small or big screen, Truckers brings to life the story of the Nomes. 15,000 years ago the Nomes crashed to Earth in a scout ship from the starship Swan. Generations of them have come and gone with the passing years and the changing countryside. Suddenly faced with extinction, the ten surviving Nomes, guided by their reluctant leader Masklin, must face many exciting adventures during their search for a new home and hiding place in the big, bad world of the humans.

Voices include: Joe McGann, Sir Michael Horden, Brian Trueman, Debra Gillett

I'm glad this is finally getting the full release that it deserves, having been severely cut for VHS release, it is now nearly twice as long as that edit.

The Bromeliad series is a favourite of my kids at the moment, and despite being a bit clunky by today's standards this series still has that certain Cosgrove Hall charm.

It's a shame they never made a Diggers or Wings series, but I believe the critical reception of Truckers probably didn't promote that.

Bought this mostly for me but also as a visual literacy accompaniment to the book (which I had chosen as our class text). The children adored it, and read far more of the trilogy voluntarily than they would have done with only my enthusiastic teaching to promote it. It looks great after all these years, and is faithful to the book. They still ask to watch it!

If you are a fan of the Pratchett oeuvre then you will like this DVD for your children (and possibly you!). It reduces the books into a suitable filmic format which is very watchable.

I've always been enthusiastic about Terry Pratchetts' writing style and have almost every book he's written as well as several films based on his books so I just had to buy this one as well. As one should expect in a product of this type, the story has been chopped up but follows the book reasonably well. Although the animation is acceptable, one must remember that this series was originally produced several decades ago and, accordingly, is not on par with modern digitalised animation. All in all, if I knew then what I know today, I would still buy it. It's worth the price.

Excellent stop-frame animation with superb characters, and good humour and plenty of satire. This DVD contains the original individual ITV programmes, each complete with the old ITV logo and jingle, a recap of the story so far, and final credits. I found all this quite distracting after the VHS tape, which has the whole story in one continuous play, but still of course managed to watch it all the way through...
