Fifth film in the popular sci-fi action franchise directed by Alan Taylor. In 2029, John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance movement against the machines, learns that Skynet is planning to attack the movement by targeting him in the past and changing the future timeline. In an effort to ensure his own existence and the survival of the human race, John sends lieutenant Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to protect his mother. But when Kyle arrives to find Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) partnered with a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and fending off an unexpected enemy, it seems there is much more at stake than previously thought... The supporting cast includes Matt Smith, Lee Byung-hun and J.K. Simmons.

Expectations for Terminator Genisys have been pretty low and the reactions from critics sort of lukworm. However despite at all, I actually found the 5th film in the popular movie franchise to be rather enjoyable. Of course, it's nowhere near the level of the first two movies, but Infoudn that I liked it more than the previous two films.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is again on top form at the T800, providing some entertaining humour and while Emilar Clarke and Jai Cournety don't bring the spark to the characters of Sarah Connor and Kyle Resse compared to Linda Hamilton and Michael Beihn, they still do well enough in the roles, with Emila Clarke looking hot in a black leather jacket.
In terms of major flaws, I think Jason Clarke comes off as being a little too creepy as John Connor and Matt Smith is given very little screen time in his role (which I won't spoil here), but I still enjoyed the film enough to want to see a sequel.

If you've managed to get this far without knowing any of the major plot points of Terminator Genysis, congratulations. I'm not going to spoil any of them for you, but there are at least 4 surprise twists in this film, and the internet blared every one of them loud and clear before the film even hit cinemas. In a way it's a great shame, as Genysis is a film ripe with invention while paradoxically loaded to the gills with influences and nods to all of the previous movies.
Part of that peculiar mixture is down to the core plot - one that I will mention as it's given away as the main selling point in every single trailer: Kyle Reese travels back in time to 1984 (just like in the original) to save Sarah Connor...only to discover she doesn't need saving and is already tough as nails and battle-ready. The timeline has changed, and that brings the film-makers the opportunity to drastically re-write several major events, including re-enactments of classic scenes that take a thrillingly unexpected turn. The re-enactments aren't perfect, but they're near enough that you'll recognise the events (to begin with at least) before the new plot throws enormously fun curveballs into them.
Amelia Clarke is a vibrant, sassy, and very fun Sarah Connor - all full of youth and attitude, and yet combat proficient and lethal. Arnie is pitch-perfect at a character he's been playing for years, and gets a chance to show a wider range of behaviours for his killer cyborg. Jai Courtney is believable, tough and likeable as the new version of Kyle Reese. He also gets pretty much the leading role, acting as our compass through the changing timeline, with his endearing loyalty and determination one of the only constants even when everything else seems to have changed.

I am a huge, huge fan of the first two "Terminators" (you don't even know) and I was excited to see this new fifth instalment in the saga. So excited that I was prepared to overlook the "re-written history" of the two classic films and the fact that if you have a time machine at one point, you could be using it again and again, who stops you to travel numerous times to numerous moments of the past attempting to re-write history?.. Okay now, sorry for the rambling. What I wanted to say is... The films is GOOD! It did not make me cringe (like the third instalment) and it did not make me instantly forget (self-induced amnesia) what I’d just seen like it happened with "Salvation". Jesus, that was bad. ANYWAY. "Terminator Genisys" tells good story, has great pace, plausible script, and it has Arnold in top form… The one disappointment is Jai Courtney, who is wooden and unfamiliar and the chemistry between him and Emilia Clarke is simply non-existent. She did a great job portraying young Sarah Connor! Great fun!.. That does not mean that I am not looking forward to the return of the Terminator franchise into the hands of James Cameron. Bring it on.

In 2029, John Connor sends Kyle Reese back in time to the year 1984 to save his mother from being killed by Terminators, human like robots as seen in the original classic 1984 film The Terminator. Once there, Kyle finds that things are very different, Sarah Connor now knows who he is and what's to come in the future, and an alternate timeline has been created. Arnold Schwarzennegger returns to the role that made him famous, and it's a joy to see him back both as an ageing Terminator and his younger self via CGI effects and the film does a decent job recreating scenes from the original 1984 film with some decent if toned down action and effects with some humour mostly at the expense of Schwarzenneggar and a decent cast. Emilia Clarke is the new Sarah Connor with Jai Courtney the new Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke the new John Connor with J K Simmons and former Doctor Who Matt Smith appears in a small but pivotal role. The Terminator was once an adults only action series and like most action films now, the action is toned down to a 12 certificate to sell tickets to kids who presumably are too young to have seen Terminator and Terminator 2 as it helps if you have seen those 2 films first making a mockery of the 12 certificate. While nowhere near as good as Terminator and Terminator 2 it's as least as good as the also toned down for kids Terminator 3 and 4 and while there are references to Terminator and Terminator 2, events in Terminator 3 and 4 are seemingly ignored along with events from the Terminator TV series. An end credit scene hints at and seems to set up future sequels.
