Amazon.co.uk Review
Harry has a problem. Ever since getting in a car accident, he's suffered from "thought seizures", violent fits in which he attacks other people. He used to be an artificial intelligence researcher, which may explain why he targets anyone who either works on machines or who acts like a machine--mechanics, gas-station attendants, prostitutes, exotic dancers. But there's hope: He can become part machine himself, undergoing "Stage 3", an experimental procedure implanting 40 electrodes deep in the pleasure centres of his brain. The surgery is successful and blissful pulses of electricity short- circuit Harry's seizures. That is, until Harry figures out how to overload himself with the satisfying jolts and escapes on a murderous rampage. One of Crichton's earliest, playing ably on 70s' fears of computers and mind-control. --Paul Hughes, Amazon.com

Product Description
A man suffering from violent seizures enters a Los Angeles hospital, where soothing pulses are sent into his brain. But then he discovers how to get the pulses with increasing frequency, escapes from the hospital, and lapses into murderous rampages. By the author of "Jurassic Park".

4.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to read, not one of the best Crichton books ever, 9 May 2002

Being an enormous Crichton fan, I enjoyed the book, although it does not match up to other Crichton books. Having recently read Timeline and Airframe, I found The Terminal Man to be a touch too simplistic even though it seems to deal with a very complex subject.
Crichton is a master of research and analysis, but this book does not do him a lot of credit in that department.
Read it, but read his other books first.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Terminal Man. A good, easy read., 27 April 2004
By wilco121 (A long time ago, In a galaxy far, far away) - See all my reviews
I was on a bit of a michael crichton fest when i purchased the terminalman. Fresh from reading in my opinion his finest; Jurassic park (onceagain the film should be reviewed in an entirely separate entity) I waschomping at the bit for another novel of similar writing style, characterexploration and marvellous plot. I enjoyed the read - but it doesn'tclassify as an all time great - I was left not quite satisfied.
As a non doctor by profession, often find a lot of medical books or withmedical theme within are very hard to follow... terminology andabbreviations often confuse. However this book really did not fall intothat trap - and found the medical references the most enjoyable part ofthe book. I was genuinely fascinated - and Michael crichton once againreally proved his research capabilities - one of the definitions of aconvincing & successful author. The storyline was short, which is notnecessarily a bad thing however in this instance it just felt a littlethin, as in it held little substance. It moved along at the right pace, held action, suspense & drama but the story I felt could only go so far.It felt stretched almost to have it as long as it was.
I know a good read when I will return to it time and time again. Althoughenjoyable, I doubt I will read The Terminal Man again. It fell slightlyshort of the mark for me. Would recommend as an ok, easy read to anyonelooking for an ok, easy read. Definitely worth a look for a uniquestoryline (if more related to 1970's outlook & visions oncomputerisation). Michael Chrichton fans be aware, it's not one of hisstrongest... worth noting however it is one of his earliest; aninteresting comparison of how a writer evolves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but the ending let it down a bit!, 10 Sep 2000
By A Customer
This book is remarkably easy to read. It has moments of excitement moments of horror and more towards the end, moments of action. I think that the first chapter is a little dull and the final chapter is oddly done-before and unoriginal. But all the chapters inbetween make this book a must read for all Micheal Crichton famliars!

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick read
Though this book is a good and quick read. It is not up to the standards of Crichton's other books. But still better than many books out there. Read more
