5.0 out of 5 stars pure class, 4 Jan 2006

Having been a fan of Ten Years After in the seventies I have recently been catching up with some of his later stuff. This album is in my opinion his best work since TYA.Alvin sounds as if he is enjoying his music again playing with some of his boyhood heroes and boy aren't these songs just brilliant. If you enjoy plain talkin, foot tapping rock and roll played to perfection then this is your album.Album of the year and a must for all 60's and 70's rock fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lee returns to his roots, 20 May 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: In Tennessee (Audio CD)
Alvin Lee in Tennessee may surprise some music buyers who are looking for blow out power blues, but it will be a pleasant and worthwhile surprise. The legendary Ten Years After guitarist has returned to his real roots with this album, playing with his own musical heroes Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana from the original Elvis Presley band. This is a collection of rockabilly, boogie, rock and roll and swing delivered with precision, passion and a great deal of fun. Lee is in top form, playing leaner and smoother than ever before, his songwriting is spot on and his vocals are superb. Supposedly this album took only two days to record, a staggering reality when you hear how tight and cohesive the players are. There are no weak spots, every one of the ten new tracks are keepers and the closer, a new version of Lee's Woodstock anthem "I'm Going Home" sets a new standard. This is the album Lee claims he always wanted to make, and he's done himself proud. 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Alvin Lee At His Best, A Masterpiece, 23 April 2004
By
This review is from: In Tennessee (Audio CD)
Message: I got my Tennessee today. Just went through the entire CD twiceand how ever high my expectations were, they were "lapped".
This is flippin magnificent. No ok, good, or great, spectacular, masmagnifico. I'm afraid to touch my CD because of the heat come out of itfrom that energy, love, happiness and pure joy inside of it.
Every piece of this CD is incredible from the musicianship, the band andthe great production.
Alvin was truly never better than he sounded on Tennessee, and theenthusiasm in his playing and his voice.
I felt that Alvin took an genre, that he loves and put his magic touch onit and made the genre a little bit wider than it ever was before.
He mastering of the art form he was playing was incredible, but Alvin didit "his" way, adding his heart and soul, style and energy to it. Inspired, fantastic.
What a band to play with, sounds like they have played all their livestoghether. Just perfect together, NO BULLS&^$. This mother is ABOUT THEMUSIC.
I do have to say that the band was flippin incredible, but WilliePritchard on piano, he and Alvin sounded like "peanut and butter", "milkand cookies". Fantastic.
If Alvin ever did not publish that version of "Goin Home", he should havebeen arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
For now, the best CD of the century.
Could there be a better time for this CD to come out ?
