From Amazon.co.uk

You don't have to be a munchie-loving stoner or an aspiring rock god to enjoy Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, but it helps. A dozen years after they introduced their mock-rock power duo on the Los Angeles club scene, Jack Black and Kyle Gass finally got the movie showcase (a partial spinoff from the D's short-lived HBO series) their fans had been waiting for, and it's a rockin' romp with plenty of crude laughs that will hit home for anyone who's ever played air guitar to Meat Loaf's "Bat out of Hell." It's a Beavis and Butt-head-like origin story, recalling the legend (ahem) of how JB (Black) and KG (Gass) met, bonded over bong-hits and rock-operatic guitar licks, then set out (on a tip from a crazed guitar-store clerk played by Ben Stiller) to find the mythic pick of destiny, used by all guitar gods and said to be fashioned from the tooth of Satan. Their quest includes a variety of well-cast cameos (including Tim Robbins, Meat Loaf, and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl as Satan himself), and there's plenty of flatulence, drug humour, at least one hilarious fantasy sequence, and outrageous sight gags too numerous to mention. Suffice it to say, it's about 90 minutes of lowbrow indulgence, and some of the jokes fall flat, but if you're a headbanger at heart, you'll know what Tenacious D is riffing on, and the sweet licks will sound that much sweeter. If you're not ready to RAWK, this potential cult favorite may not be for you... but give it try anyway. It may not be better than Citizen Kane, but if you're properly stoked, it comes close to rock & roll heaven. --Jeff Shannon

Product Description

Comedy starring Jack Black (School of Rock, King Kong) in his other capacity as one half of hard-rockin spoof band, Tenacious D. This is the story of how the band Tenacious D came into being; Jack Black, a green Midwestern newcomer to California, comes across Kyle Gass playing guitar on the beach and is stricken. KG is a guitar god and JB wants to be part of his life. The marriage of his classic Rock voice and KG's shredding, face-melting solos proves fruitful. Their partnership soon gives rise to the idea that the two could go for Rockin' world domination and this they set out to achieve. The road to Rock Valhalla is a long and arduous one though. To shorten it, they set out on the quest for The Pick Of Destiny - housed in a museum some miles away but promising its possessor mythological Rock immortality. However its theft proves to be a complicated business at the end of a long and winding road.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Flick Of Destiny 3 Jan 2007
By Blatch
Format:DVD
Being a huge fan of the D i was fairly excited about their film "The Pick Of Destiny", which stars Jack Black and Kyle Gass and features cameo performances by Foo Fighters legend Dave Grohl as well as Meatloaf and Dio. The film is exactly what you would expect from Tenacious D: a plot that sounds like it was thrown together while on mushrooms (curiously this is also one of the more hilarious parts of the film), a lot of swearing and some hilarious gags. While, admittedly, it does take a while to get started properly and feels rather quick at the beginning, once the film gets underway it is a non-stop hilarity ride. However, those who are not already familiar with the works of Tenacious D will not enjoy it, as the film seems to be made mainly for the D-siples.

All in all this is a highly enjoyable film for all fans of Tenacious D and I believe it has fully earned its five star award.

5.0 out of 5 stars Legends of Rock! 19 Sep 2011

JB and KG are very funny in this movie that fits in quite well with the HBO TV series(on the Masterworks DVD). I think this is a brilliant and very rewatchable movie, a hilarious script, great cameos(Meat Loaf,Dio,Ben Stiller,Tim Robbins), and excellent songs. The opening scenes are particuarly funny and perhaps the ending could have been slightly more epic, but I feel if you're a fan of Tenacious D or like films like Roadie, School of Rock or Waynes World then you should love Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tenacious D 4 Oct 2007
By Spider Monkey HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
After all the hype, and after loving the first album, I thought I'd give the film a go. It isn't too bad, I was expecting more belly laughs than I got, but it is a genuinely amusing film that will kill a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. A few moments do make you chuckle out loud and there are some great cameos. Jack Black is his usual gurning, swearing, hilarious self and KG comes out with some great lines as well. Don't expect too much, but do expect a great film that doesn't take itself too seriously and that will raise a smile.

Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
