A familiar rhyme, with a tweak or two from,
By
This review is from: Ten in the Bed (Paperback)
Jane Cabrera, and it is one of the most popular books (and noisy ones!) in the 'read-with-me' corner at the local Library!
From the back cover:- 'There are ten in the bed and the Little One just wants to go to sleep! But as the other animals get more and more playful they start falling out, until there's only one left.....so will Little One ever get his sleep?' Awww - poor little thing............! Large format paperback covers open to 28 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format. Beautifully illustrated in vibrant colours throughout with that `come join in' appeal! Clear, easy-to-follow text, enhanced in places, FOR EFFECT! The relevant number is clear at the top of the left hand page, in case you forget where you are! Example of text:- 'Here is the Little One A tired and sleepy head Stretching and yawning He's ready for bed. But......... There were ten in the bed And the Little One said "Move over, move over." So they all rolled over and the snorer fell out. There were nine in the bed. And the Little One said "Move over, move over." So they all rushed over And the cook fell out.....' Super book with extra interest in the 'occupation' of the one vacating the bed, and decreasing the numbers, each time!

Lovely, but can be confusing to read to a group,
By AFConnors - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Ten in the Bed: (Hardcover)
I absolutely love Jane Cabrera's illustrations. They are as cuddly as you can get and still be two-dimensional! The young children I teach like this book, but I have one tiny problem with it. Because there's so much going on visually, with the stuffed animals dressed up to represent different occupations, the children have a lot of observations to make and things they want to ask about. Which is great, but if you're reading to a group you can't be stopping every minute to have a discussion. I do get around it by telling children ahead of time that we'll talk about the book after we read it, but it's probably better suited to a one-on-one reading (I'd think it's ideal for bedtime).

So they were ten in the bed, and the little one said "move over"...
From there every page creates a scenery for a new animal to fall from the bed. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful and funny (they're copies of paintings so you see the strokes) and the theme on each page will spark discussions with your little one. (My daughter loves to look for the little details on each page). A great bedtime story !

And the little one said..,

This review is from: Ten in the Bed (Jane Cabrera Board Books) (Board book)
My 2 year old loves this book. We got it out of the library and have renewed it constantly for about a year now. I finally decided we needed a copy of our own. The illustrations are so colorful in this book and it is sturdy as a board book should be. My daughter likes to read it to me too. (As a I type this, my daughter came up next to me and seeing the book's image on the screen started singing, "Roll over, roll over".) My only minor (and I stress minor) complaint is that is says "move over" instead of "roll over", which is what I grew up with and which I taught my kids before this book. We still say roll over, but as the girls start reading, it could get confusing. I realize this is on me, not the book. I still purchased it though because the pluses far outweigh that one point. |
