Product Description

Can any woman resist the temptation of his touch?

Maximillian Burke has always prided himself on being the man every mother would want her daughter to marry. But after his scoundrel of a brother makes off with Max's bride, Max discovers it's more satisfying to be a rogue than the perfect gentleman. Forced to flee London after a duel gone wrong, Max seeks refuge at Cadgwyck Manor on the lonely coast of Cornwall, a place as wild and savage as his current temper. The tumbledown manor comes complete with its own ghost but oddly enough, it's not the White Lady of Cadgwyck who begins to haunt Max's heated dreams but his no-nonsense housekeeper.

The last thing prim and proper housekeeper Anne Spencer needs is a new master, especially one as brooding and gorgeous as the Earl of Dravenwood. Even as she schemes to be rid of him, she finds herself irresistibly drawn into his strong, muscular arms. When Max vows to solve the mystery of Cadgwyck's ghost, he doesn't realize it will put both of their hearts at risk and tempt them to surrender to a pleasure as delicious as it is dangerous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful 4 Mar 2013

Excellent. An old fashioned romance with a Hitchcock style twist. Far outweighed the first book in terms of suspense and style. Many thanks Teresa. Please continue to write more.

4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful gothic romance 30 Jan 2013
By Mary @ *Buried Under Romance* - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Maximillian Burke, Earl of Dravenwood and heir to a dukedom, finally stopped being cordial after being left at the altar by the woman he's loved for most of his life, who had in turn married his younger brother. Ever a danger to himself and others, Max decides his dark moods would be better endured in his most remote holding, Cadgwyck Manor. Nothing, however, would have prepared him for this crumbling, haunted (literally and figuratively) place, meeting his soul mate in a seemingly ironclad housekeeper, almost getting killed twice, and an infatuation with a ghost - Angelica Cadgwyck.

Anne Spencer, housekeeper of Cadgwyck Manor, has a good reason to chase out this new master. Before Max arrived, she had already prepared her bevy of servants to displease him, all the while using the ghost legend to drive him out. After all, the previous owners have either fled in horror or met untimely deaths, so how hard could this one be?

Anne and Max are both wonderfully complex characters who have their own ghosts to chase, yet find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other. I greatly sympathize with Max, who has been unable to accept the loss of his fiancee for a long time and could not stop the feelings of destruction within him. Anne tries to repent for her past mistake by erasing all pleasure from her life, giving all the care and comfort to her family of servants. For these two, finding a forgiveness in each other and a light to replace past hurts became their guiding love.

Teresa Medeiros's lyrical prose and superb description of scenery details fully captures the wild beauty of a haunted castle by the cliffs, adding a flavor of intrigue, suspense, and ultimately love, to Max and Anne's adventures. As the characters get to know each other, the hidden truth comes out of the past to a tumbling and happy conclusion for the couple. The only issue I have with this is in the rather abrupt ending, where there were several unresolved issues that would have been crucial given Max's circumstances, and his laconic explanation of his love. However, this would not deter any reader from enjoying this wonderfully crafted story, and I highly recommend all gothic lovers to try this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable with a terrific hero, 4.5 stars 30 Jan 2013

Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
A mysterious manor overlooking the cliffs in Cornwall is the setting for Teresa Medeiros's new novel The Temptation of Your Touch. This story has a gothic feel to it and the leads, particularly the hero are well developed and admirable.

Maximillian Burke, Lord Dravenwood has always played by the rules, a perfect son, perfect lord and a perfect fiance' and yet he is jilted at the alter; his bride dumping him for his wastrel globe trotting brother. Max becomes a bit of a bad boy but it is not a comfortable fit so he takes off to one of his family's newest land acquisitions, a castle, Cadgwyck Manor, in Cornwall to escape the gossip of the ton.

Max discovers that the local villagers will have very little to do with Cadgwyck Manor because it is said to be haunted by a female ghost with a tragic past. Max is greeted by a motley crew of servants when he arrives at Cadgwyck led by a bossy- no nonsense housekeeper named Mrs. Spencer.

Anne, aka Mrs. Spencer has assembled a rag tag group of people to live in the manor and she loves them all dearly from the senile butler to the young maids escaping the slums of London. The group has always managed to keep former masters away from the castle due to the manor's less than clean condition and their terrible service, but Lord Dravenwood proves to be difficult despite their best efforts.

At first I wondered if I would like Anne, who is quick to say "no man will be my master." I thought, "Oh, she's one of those heroines, prickly, stubborn and paints every man as a scoundrel." Well, Anne is a bit like that(at times she can be too obstinate) but she is also kind and she truly loves people as evidenced by the way she has immense patience with those around her. The reader can see she is much more than she seems and even though she can be stubborn she is also insightful when it comes to Max.

Max is intrigued by his home and the servants. The sad story of the past occupant who roams the castle as the White Lady of Cadgwyck is a mystery he dearly wants to solve and he is certainly not afraid of a ghost. Max is truly heroic, risking his life for others several times in this novel.

Even though there is the mystery of the ghost and the unproductive servants, this story is ultimately about the power of forgiveness. Both characters struggle with forgiving themselves for their mistakes, their past weighs them down and both have a difficult time seeing a future filled with joy and love.

I really enjoyed this novel. The pacing is good with nice twists throughout the story to keep it from being too predictable and Max is a marvelous hero, he is faithful and self sacrificing. This earns 4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything works 4 Feb 2013

Longtime fans and those new to Teresa Medeiros will much to delight in The Temptation of Your Touch -- guilt, remorse, secrets, redemption.

Author Medeiros had an unenviable task -- taking Max, first introduced in The Pleasure of Your Kiss, and redeeming him in Temptation. She hits just the right notes in this sequel, giving us every reason to cheer for Max as he comes to terms with his upbringing and his true self. Anne, the mysterious housekeeper, also has to come to terms with her past and its effect on her present.

Family is a strong theme in Temptation, both the family we are born with and the family we create as we travel through life.

Although The Temptation of Your Touch can stand alone, readers will enjoy it much more if they have already read The Pleasure of Your Kiss.

Max is in line to become a Duke and is running away from what he considers to be his sad and imprudent life. Anne is the young and beautiful housekeeper at the home to which Max runs.

They have conflicts from the first time they meet and it does not get better. The staff is searching for something in the house and they hope that Max will leave like the other owners have done. The reason people leave is the ghost. The White Lady seems to appear and frighten everyone who sees her, hears her or simply hears about her.

The idea is, if Max is gone, they can get back to the treasure hunt without interruption.

Max feels he has no other place where he would feel happy, so this broken down manor house with cobwebs hanging everywhere fits right into his mood. And being a stubborn and inquisitive man, he is determined to find answers to all his questions.

All of this is done with the humor that Teresa Medeiros always includes in her books.

There are twists and turns, there is sexual attraction and tension, and there is humor.

I have never read a book by this author which I did not enjoy. And this book is no exception. The only problem I can see is the new book means I will have to wait awhile for the next one.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance and mystery and laughter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Max and Anne 16 Sep 2013
By Amy Conley - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This newest book from Teresa is a wonnderful read. She makes the reader smell the sea, see the wild Cornish cliffs and moors. She also makes the manor, in all it's confusion, come to life. I was laughing out loud at the servants' "cleaning" processes.
The relationship between Max and Anne is fantastic. They begin by hiding not just from others, but from themselves and who they truly are and end up coming together perfectly.
Love all of Teresa's works and this lives up to all of her previous books.
