This really is a great summer-beach holiday read. Three Dublin girls try to balance their lives between morality, amorality and having a good sex life. First there's feature writer Kitty who makes a New Year's resolution to become a mistress, but is a bit worried about the consequences. Then there's her sister, Sunny, a struggling actress who's determined to get to Hollywood. Plus Kitty's workmate Rose who can't quite believe her much younger admirer really loves her. Addressing that tortuous question of how do you discard emotional baggage when the seemingly right set of new luggage comes along is a great angst for the thirties and fortysomethings, but Martina tackles it with touching wit and worldly experience. There are some nice character touches: the mad editor who doesn't understand why his staff want to leave the building before him, and the happily married business tycoon who can happily blank out his wife and new child when it comes to finding a new mistress. Enjoy.
